Just picked up a run and gun converted to blitz and the seller mentioned he unhooked the left monitor because it was arcing and said it should be an easy fix ;-). Are there specific trouble spots on these monitors? I did inspect the flyback and didn't see any cracks or burn marks on the yoke.

I'm not really willing to fire it up as I want to avoid replacing more shit.

Verify everythings hooked up where it needs to be. Make sure the anode hole isn't filled with a bunch of dirt. Make sure the CRT ground is hooked up to the neckboard. Stuff like that.

I checked over it and everything looks good except the old caps. Im wondering how do I get this cage off in pic 1 and if this hole in pic 2 is normal or some type of repair.

You mentioned in another thread that CEC_DFW has a parts list for these can you provide a link?

to remove the cage, first undo the two screws on the side. you have to take the bottom half out first, it has some little clips on the top of the chassis that the tabs snap into. use a little flathead to alternate prying both ends of the bottom and it should pop out.

the top has some tabs that feed through small slots that you twist to lock it on. I want to say on the first Polo I ever worked on though that these were also soldered somehow, though when I fixed my last Polo I don't recall there being anything to solder to lol.

if you Search for "Hantarex Polo cap map" I made a cap map for it, albeit I noticed I made a couple errors on it as far as cap location numbers go. makes it a ton easier though than just doing it blindly. it would've been one of the fastest re-caps I did if I didn't have to resort to hacks because solder pads broke and the chassis altogether was just worked on wrong before me.

if you have questions feel free to ask me, I don't know how, but I've managed to fix 3 of these now with scrap parts.

good to know Ill order caps and a flyback and start there. Maybe Ill get lucky.

I'm going to guess the original flybacks were much like the old K7000 (white knob) ones and that they just do a wide array of bizarre shit when they fail. never saw a cracked flyback until this 33" Polo one took a shit, it had a 2 inch long crack in the side of it. luckily I was able to just cap that and I pulled a working one off of a free chassis I got and it was all good.

I hope your neck socket has the flip open cover for the focus wire, there's 2 designs of this and one of them, I can't figure out for the life of me how to open the damn thing.

they're pretty finnicky when the caps are starting to go bad. it's the best insurance policy for the Polo really lol.

pay particular mention that the replacement flybacks for these have a different color scheme for the wires, and some of them either have the extra ground pin or they don't. I installed the flyback on the last Polo I did incorrectly, I matched the colors of the original one and wound up soldering the G2 wire to the focus and the focus to where the G2's supposed to go lol. I'll have you know, the focus wire is the fatter of the two. remember this, otherwise you'll get some rainbow colored lines and a weird buzzing sound.

Alright so I have have the caps and flyback now. Ive managed to test the working monitor and it has some issues. Wont fill screen, lines through the top besides that looks pretty good.

@Mecha The wires on the new flyback appear to match the original the fatter being the focus wire and its correctly colored to the original any chance there are different flybacks I dont wanna screw this up.

Nah, they come from different sources, if you're concerned at all just compare the numbers. I wouldnt worry though.
