Hamlet's Tempest Spinner: To 'brrrr', or not to 'brrrr', that is the question...

To 'brrrr' I would vote. Every Tempest that I played had that sound to the spinner. And the cabinet I picked up a month ago has the 'brrr'.

It just takes a dab of grease to make that go away for a few months. A dab'll do ya! Hit both the bushings with it and it'll be smooth as silk.

yeah I went in with the intent to change the bushings, I just put a few drops of the 3 in 1 oil, and now it moves so fast you can't believe it.

oh and to keep the brrrrrr or lose the brrrrr is like asking to drive with a flat tire or fix it.

This question pops up every now and then. You can do a search and find lots of opinions.

My take is that if it makes the noise it needs maintenance. I have the brass bushing kit in mine and love it. To me the brr sound is like fingernails on a chalkboard. You shouldn't be spinning around that much when you play anyway!
Shameless Tempest technique video plug.

mine is major havoc, so spinning it at a high rate of speed is important.

I have a spinner in my Tempest that has used trackball bearings epoxied in instead of the plastic bushings..

I had to learn how to play again. Having it spin silently and freely is really different! It just keeps spinning and spinning.

I know get much higher scores, but I do miss some noise from the spinner!
