Hamilton quarter hopper not ejecting coins - SOLVED!

First time working on a change machine, so I thought I would ask some questions before I tear anything apart :)

This is a Hamilton bill changer from 1994, Model EV-H. I downloaded the manual and it has been very helpful so far.

After going thru some error codes and finding a bad ground wire on the back of the hopper, I have everything working. Bill is accepted and verified, then the coin hopper gets a signal and starts spinning. The issue is, it won't eject the quarters.

Looking closely, I see there is a pin on the bottom of the spinning tray that is supposed to push the quarter up into the eject slot. It seems like it's not quite high enough, so the coin doesn't catch and the mechanism keeps spinning until it times out.

I noticed there is a mini leaf spring under that pin which pushes it up towards the hopper. With some extra pressure, it lifts a little higher and coins eject as expected.

My questions:
A: Do I need to track down a new part for this?...or...
B: Try to bend the leaf spring thingy to get it to push up hight?
C: Try to adjust the height of the spinning tray by loosening the allen screw?
D: Maybe a combination of B and C?

I tried to highlight the sections I'm referring to in the pictures. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

i would try to bend the pin (gentle like) to see if it will do its job proper
the pin looks worn down to me

Well, no luck with trying to bend the pin up higher. I'm assuming it's too worn out like you said. I can get it to work intermittently with some pressure from underneath but that's not going to help long term.

I'll either have to figure out a custom fix or see if there's any chance parts still exist for these things.

Thanks for the suggestion.

you can if u have to remove the pin
and get the top welded back on (built up weld)
then grind it down to work right

Not a very exciting or intriguing solution, but it may help someone in the future :)

Ed, thanks again for the suggestions. Fortunately I didn't have to do any welding.

I was messing with it again yesterday, and noticed there was some play in the coin ejector wheel that probably shouldn't be there. I loosened up the allen screw on the collar underneath, lifted the wheel off, and cleaned everything up. Then I pushed the wheel back down firmly and tightened the allen screw.

I also tightened all the screws around the circular collar (and any other screws I could find). Strangely enough there were some that were looser than I expected. I suppose they would do that over time with all the vibration from the hopper.

Finally, I used a large, flathead screwdriver to push up on the metal leaf holding the pin...making sure it was flush with the bottom of the coin ejector.

When I got everything back together it worked liked a charm!

Well thanks, very nice of you to say.

Happy early Victoria Day! Enjoy your long weekend :)
