Halo Reach

I let my 16 year old son stay home from school today to play it.
Am I a bad father?
;-)

I played hooky for a week Dec of '91 when I got my SNES. Im pretty sure my Parents knew what was going on. In my defense, we had just moved to a new city, and I hated everything about the school I had started. They were cool about it.

Man, I played the shit out of FZero, Super Mario World, and Super Bases Loaded that week/end.

I took the day off to get and play Ico when it came out on PS2. I was the only one at that GameStop that preordered it :p

I play every Halo clear through the campaign the night of release.

Honestly, Reach was a disappointment. Very short campaign and a pretty weak ending.

They acted like ODST was short because it was originally an add-on, but Reach was just as short. Thankfully we have great multiplayer to make it a worthwhile purchase, but overall I was pretty let down.

That would be cool if I could say the same. I didn't have an original Xbox until way late in the game and the few times I tried Halo or Halo 2, I really didn't care for it...then again, I was into FPS's on PC back then and didn't like console controls for them other than the N64. I've since got back into FPS's on consoles thanks to Call of Duty and the lack of a decent PC a few years ago.

So I got Halo 3 when I found it on sale and REALLY hated the controls for some reason. I can't explain it, but they just feel..."laggy" or something. I was really wanting to get into with everyone else at work, but just couldn't. I don't think it's a "bad" game/series, just not my thing.

I can kind of understand though. Halo is really what made online multiplayer FPS gaming a big deal. Since then, many have followed suite and done a better job (imo) but Halo will always be popular if for no other reason than being the one who started it.

I think Unreal Tournament had a lot to do with the popularity of on line FPS. Seems like a long time ago...

If you buy any version of Halo Reach at Best Buy, you get a $20 gift card on the spot. If you are going to get it, this is the way to go.

If you buy it through amazon, you get a $20 credit toward any future video game purchase. And you get free shipping and you don't have to pay sales tax. Of course, you won't get it for a few days, but who cares with Halo games. They're just average to slightly above average FPSs. Not to mention the fact that they're all virtually identical.

True - I should have clarified that I meant for consoles :)

Release day shipping for Halo: Reach was like 90 cents when I checked, though I did not end up ordering it.

I would still have gone with the free shipping.

The only thing I hate about ordering a single game from Amazon is that they ship it in a bubble mailer. This often results in the case being jacked up and possibly the disc out of the tray.

Yeah but when I order a game from amazon I almost always throw something else, like a book or CD or DVD or bluray, in my cart too.

i have had it for a week and so far i can say its no halo 2

but compared to odst its awsome
i still have yet to play online because my version wont pass verfication

my biggest complaint is the stupid blur they use to give the effect of better graffix
i would have been just happy with halo 3 graffix

the graffix in the game almost give it a claymation feel

I got it from Wal-Mart at midnight. Everyone who bought it received a beanie, poster, and a $20 Wal-Mart gift card. I also get 10% off due to my wife working there. Even without the 10% off no one can come close to that deal.

i wanted to like this but it's just halo again. has some variety in the campaign but variety does not always equal fun. graphics are ok but they are still pretty jerky at times and the detail is lacking a lot of the time. some of the environments look pretty good then some are as bland as ever. I played halo 1 and 2 a bit, then 3, skipped odst. i pretty much just play the campaign though. i hope people come up with cool ideas in forge, i'll probably hang on to it for that.

What does this mean? "Its just Halo again".

When have you played the last installment of a game franchise and said "WOW! This is WAAAAAY different!" and still LOVED it?

I can see when games went from 2D to 3D (a la Mario to Mario 64, Zelda etc) but after that, when is a game suddenly different? Mario Galaxy cause of the funky gravity maybe? Its still a 3D platformer where you try and get stars.

The COD series are all FPS war games. Sure, they are in different era's but they are all COD.

I preordered the standard copy and have been playing it for two days now. I LOVE this game. I didn't buy it for the multiplayer since I don't care for online multiplayer. I bought it for the story and so far it is not disappointing. I love the Halo universe.

I wish I bought the Legendary edition but oh well.

I haven't played ODST yet. I wish Bungie would stay on and do a sequel to Halo 3. I'm excited to see where the story goes.

Hugh, I thought ODST was worth a playthrough. Very cool atmosphere and story IMO. Worth the original $60? Nah but you can obviously find it for much less.

That's good to hear! I will definitely eventually pick it up someday. I skipped over it since it seemed to be just a side story to Halo 3, but I love almost everything Halo.

I finally got around to starting this. I'm about 2/3 of the way through. Normally I would blow through a game like this in one or two days playing all day, but I can't play this for very long (by my standards anyway) without getting bored. To me, Reach has just further cemented Halo's status as an utterly mediocre franchise. There is nothing great about this game at all. Of course the Halo fanatics will disagree, but there opinion is usually meaningless since they play so few different games that they have nothing to compare it to. As someone who plays a ton of games of all different types, I say these games are about average.
