I know many of you guys hate the Halo franchise, but I'm getting pretty pumped for Reach. Halo is the reason I got my first XBOX, and Halo 2 was the reason I got XBL, so I'm a fan. Yes, I play other games and am not hardcore enough for the "Halo sucks compared to..." arguments.

Will any one else be getting this/playing online?

I'll only be getting it if a free copy shows up on my desk...

I've got it pre-ordered with amazon. I'll play the single player campaign quickly on the hardest setting and never touch it again. I don't really know what all the hype is about with the Halo games. They are average FPSs. Not bad, but nothing particularly great about any of them. I have two theories as to why these games are so highly regarded. First, the first Halo was a launch game on the original Xbox and so a lot of people played it. Second, a lot of Halo freaks literally play nothing but Halo and so they have nothing to compare it to.

This sounds really nerdy, but the only reason I play Halo so much is because my buddies do. I enjoy the game no doubt, but since I live out in the fucking middle of nowhere, I don't get to see them much. Us playing is like having poker nights at someone's house, and we sit and bust balls, and talk shit. Its more of a social thing for me than anything. Sad? Maybe. Fun though.

That would be cool if I could say the same. I didn't have an original Xbox until way late in the game and the few times I tried Halo or Halo 2, I really didn't care for it...then again, I was into FPS's on PC back then and didn't like console controls for them other than the N64. I've since got back into FPS's on consoles thanks to Call of Duty and the lack of a decent PC a few years ago.

So I got Halo 3 when I found it on sale and REALLY hated the controls for some reason. I can't explain it, but they just feel..."laggy" or something. I was really wanting to get into with everyone else at work, but just couldn't. I don't think it's a "bad" game/series, just not my thing.

I can kind of understand though. Halo is really what made online multiplayer FPS gaming a big deal. Since then, many have followed suite and done a better job (imo) but Halo will always be popular if for no other reason than being the one who started it.

Did you ever adjust your sensitivities? A lot of PC gamers who play H3 seem to put them way up and say it helps out. I never played PC games, so all Halo controls seem "normal" to me.

Yes, of course. I crank up the sensitivity on most FPS's but the H3 controls in general just feel...maybe "clunky" is a better word - it's hard to describe. Almost like I'm using controls from an older game/system that by today's standards should have evolved over time...I don't know :p

I just pre-ordered mine today. I'm an 8 out of 10 on the Halo freak scale. Got a costume and everything. I never even had Halo, but got Halo 2 when 3 of my residents got it and wanted to play Live. Once we got going, it was an addiction. We stayed up until 2am for almost a month straight. I think I logged in over 8000 games of Halo2 on Live. Then when Halo 3 came out, it started all over again. There are definitely better games out there, but like many of the classic games, it's the associations you have with the game, not necessarily the game itself. It's the Live capabilities and the sheer number of people that play online that make it what it is.

I will def be gettin it.
Halo is not just another fps imo. I think they do a stelar job with the game in all aspects and also show they care about the customer/end user.

Also playing what your friends play to be socail is a big thing also.
I personall think halo campaign games are great as well.

I understand the aversion to pc control vs xbox controls, but watcha gonna do? The controls aren't that bad and everyone is using the same controls so its a level playing field in some respect.

Well said !

I did not get Halo:ODST but have Halo:Reach on preorder.

I've been a fan of Bungie since they developed Mac-only games back in the 90's. I was fortunate enough to see the 1st live demo of the original Halo game, pre-MS acquisition, in person at MacWorld.

Personally, I still like the original Halo the best of the series. For it's time, it was breathtaking in quality and story line. The twist w/ the Flood was very well done...

Damn! Now I need to go and play it again. :D

Bah - the guys at work have me tempted again. I have a $20 credit with Amazon right now and since I'd get another credit getting this, I suppose I couldn't complain. I just feel like I've given Halo so many chances and have never cared for it, I don't want to be fooled again :p

Who knows, I still have another couple of days to decide.

I had a chance to play it and the campaign is by far the best out of all of games in series bar none.

i havent preordered it, nor really looked at anything about the game, literally I know nothing of it other than the title. I played the shit outta 1, even after 2 came out because with xbox connect you were able to play it online via system link.

2 was cool, had fun with it, and 3 was cool as well, played it for a couple months. But like everything it gets boring. same thing happened with me in call of duty, played the shit outta 4 and then never touched waw, or mw2.

I doubt ill pick it up, I am more of a fpfps guy, (fast paced). The first unreal championship on xbox I hit top 5 at one point and quake 4 was amazing, I was number 2 on the leaderboards and couldnt hit number one only because I started playing late and the number 1's points were a lot higher than mine and he was still playing non stop.

Another thing to note, People might seem to be good online, but there is a whole nother group who you wont really find inside of ranked matches. I played quake 4 like crazy, and someone noticed me, sent me an invite to a private match, the match was filled with people I have never seen, needless to say I got my ass handed to me. and for quite some time, I got better by playing them and they taught me some new tricks, but it goes to show theres always someone better out there. This same clan did the same with CoD and GoW, played private player matches with some elite kids.

My buddy who ordered from Walmart.com got his copy this morning.

I'm jealous :(

I've got to pick up mine today or tomorrow. My 360 got the RROD which I thought I got fixed, but popped up again. I'm just going to see if I can get $10 credit for it at Gamestop and buy a used one for $130.
