Half Life 2 is 10 years old today

I remember hearing about the specs for this game and built a whole new computer just in time for launch.

This game hit prime time for me and PC gaming. I was in the thick of it, and I even had the limited edition box set when it was released.

I never beat it... I really only bought it because there wasn't a way around STEAM at the time, and we all wanted to play at the LAN parties :D

heh same. sometimes i'll just opt for a more powerful graphics card for launches like that, but the second i heard a solid release date, i scrambled to get a new PC

same as well (on the Limited Edition box thing) hahahaha

i used to pirate all my games, but i pay for Valve stuff. i'm normally hardcore anti-DRM, but Steam actually provides value to consumers (unlike crapware like Uplay and Origin)

I enjoyed 2, but I have always thought the first one sucked a hard one...

There were MUCH better FPS games out at the time, not least of all Rainbow Six...Half Life 1 sucked a big fat dick(Like the blonde on the right).

While half life 2 was a good game the DRM on it was horrible. I remember a friend who bought the disks and couldn't play it the first day due to server issues. Another friend grabbed a pirated copy and was playing in like 30 minutes. He was going to buy a copy to play online after playing the pirated copy until he realized that his friends who bought the game couldn't play.

I remember not being able to play CSS matches in the gaming clan I was in because steam was too busy to see if my game was legit.

gotta say this is the first time i've encountered anyone with gaming/DRM issues on Steam. per my responses i'm usually rabid anti-DRM but Steam has always been nice to me.

although it doesn't make HL2 any less ground-breaking.

still hoping HL3 will see the light of day.

Steam has gotten a lot better. When HL2 came out a lot of people had issues with steam and getting the game to decrypt. In the online gaming clans we had a lot of issues with steam not letting us in months after HL2 came out to play our games.

At this point I hope HL3 doesn't come out. It has just been too long. I just feel it would end up like duke nukem forever. Even if it was good it would never live up to the hype. I don't know if valve has the staff to really do it right as well. I can just think of too many game franchises that take that much time off that end up failing.

Half Life 1 was awesome, and I enjoyed playing through HL2 on the Xbox. I never got into the military shooters, so my source of comparison for HL1 was Doom & Quake from years earlier.

1/10 troll bro ... try to be more subtle next time.

if you're REALLY trying to uber-troll you should've gone the "Hitler praised Half Life for its pervasive anti-Semitic message" route. while not convincing, it still would've shown more effort.

you can have your own opinion that you didn't like the game (no qualms there). but saying that it was objectively a bad game ... well ... you'd almost have more success claiming that ice cream tastes terrible and that Sophia Vergara is disgusting and unattractive.

Yep...having my own opinion makes me wrong. Thinking like that, enjoy being a sheep...your government LOVES you for it.

i can only pray that Gaben unbreaks my heart.
