"Half LETA PCB", anyone ever heard of this?

A friend of mine mentioned something about Atari making a "half LETA PCB adapter" that used standard parts. Anyone ever hear of this or know anything about it? Is there a PROM file for it?

It's called the LETA Eliminator. I've got one somewhere and when I was drawing up a schematic for it, it appeared to me that it only implemented half a LETA. IIIRC, there are solder bridges or something so you can choose which half it implements. There is a PROM on it.

Can someone explain what exactly the LETA does (or looks like, for that matter?) I've always had a System 1 in my collection over the years and never really understood this. Do all 5 games need one or is it strictly for Marble Madness? Thanks!

The LETA is a chip that reads optical controls. Think trackballs, Steering Wheels, 720 Controller. It's on more then System 1 games and it's on System I and System II games that don't use it, like Paperboy for example.

LETA eliminator.

Not sure what a 1/2 LETA looks like.
