This looks like a 'replacement' for the venerable Hakko 936 soldering station. Anyone have one? Any good?

Price is exactly the same and apparently the FX-888 performs better if you're into graphs. You probably can't go wrong with it, but I wouldn't upgrade if I didn't have to.

Anyone get this recently?

My soldering station is dead, it is a rat shack one so no parts available. The Hakko fx-888 is available locally and appears solid (except for the colors!!) so I might pick it up.

Yep, picked one up recently. Love it! Does everything I need, and does it well. Tons of tips available, too.

I found some awesome deals on eBay (new).

Thanks Eagle. Going to pick one up today pending any surprises posted here...

I picked one up about 6 months ago. I does everything I need it to and the local Fry's electronics has several different replacement tips.

Thanks... Just picked it up. $85 at Frys. Will try it later today.

Used it a ton yesterday... Replaced WPC driver header pins, caps and bridge rectifier. Also replaced a Roadblasters switch, and more.

Works great. Definitely recommended.

...but with good reasons:

1. it's Halloween time! woot woot

and

2. why is the hakko fx888-23by ANALOG almost impossible to buy? i've been search on eBay for the past 6-12 months and all they sell are shitty digital versions... le sigh

Digital is better, try setting the analog with 1 degree accuracy.

false. 1 degree accuracy for soldering? really? lol gimme a break.

good luck when you have to jump up from 300F to 600F with your digital buttons you have to hit 100s of times. with analog, you dial it within seconds, bam. instant gratification.

to summarize, 1 degree accuracy is a fallacy when it comes to soldering :)

Just a few presses, literally takes seconds on the digital version to change to any temp from any temp.
