Hakko 808 desoldering gun

I ordered one from Fry's online, shipping was only $7.99. I agree, they are awesome. I couldn't believe how easy it made the job. I'm glad I didn't put off getting one.

I still use my cheapo Radio Shack desoldering iron when replacing header pins, but the Hakko is a lifesaver for anything else.

Just don't do what I did and misplace the little wire thingy for cleaning out the nozzle...I have things lined up to do and can't find it anywhere and it clogged up. May have to order another one (or 10).

I usually hold my desoldering gun with the tip facing up and suck whatever solder is left in the tip into the solder canister, then it won't clog up. Make sure to clean it out after every use.

Go to any welding supply company or online places like Northern or Harbor Freight and get yourself a tip cleaner. Cost is about $3.00 and will work on many different tip sizes. I taught micro-miniature soldering in the Navy and that's what we used.
