Had montior chasis repaired, hooked it up, monitor DOES NOT WORK

Monitor: Nanao MS9-29
Symptoms before I sent the chasis in for repair:

When I turned on the cab, the monitor sounded like it was powering up for a second, then shut off. You know the brief "static" sound that builds up in a crt before the picture turns on? Thats the sound I heard briefly before it turned off. No picture the whole time.

So I sent my chasis in for repair, they fixed it, said it was working fine before they shipped it back. Recieved it today and it was wrapped very good so there is no reason to thing anything broke in transist.

I hook up the chasis, turned on the cab, and this time the monitor turned on and stayed on (the static sound built up, did not hear the monitor click off), but I still get absolutely no picture. Not even a fuzzy/gray/white screen, just a totally black as if the monitor was off. When I turn off the cab, I hear the "click" sound of the monitor turning off, so I know the monitor IS on the whole time. I tried adjusting the control panel pots, no effect.

I really need some guidence here as I definately see a "fix" in the monitor chasis (monitor stays on the hole time), so the repair did something and they claimed the chasis worked for them, but I still get no picture on my end. Where can I start debuging this?

Here are some pics from the chasis, maybe I hooked up something wrong?

As you can see in the last pic, there is a missing header there but I don't see anything to hook it up too and I don't remember if anything was there when I first removed the chasis.

Also, I'm not 100% sure I properly attached the anode if that matters. It "feels" like its in there tight, but I'm not sure I properly connected the metal part. What are the prongs suppose to be touching?

the prongs of the anode just need to be inside the hole. If you can't tug it off, they are likely in, but if you can tug it, or slide if off side to side, then it's not in right.

The monitor coming on and staying on is a good sign. Are you sure you have a video signal? Double check your RGB connection.

Also, have you checked the brightness? Is it possible the monitor is just dialed way down?

I have an oscope, I'll check the rgb/sync lines feeding into the chasis and post the findings in a few minutes.

I can confirm RGB output at the jamma connector but nothing seeing anything at the connector that goes into the chasis. It may be a probe issue though, my probe is very short and I'm not sure im making contact with the metal in the molex connector, may need to cut the wire.

Solved it. Took A LOT of cutting and probing wires to figure out wtf was going on. The previous cab owner got some random addon connectors everywhere in the jamma connector chain and it was wired to get RGBS video from some other source than the jamma connector. I removed all the garbage and now it's working good.

On that note though, it looks like I have some kinda greenish hue/tint in the top left corner. Is that fixable? Degauss or cap kit or something?

Well, you could leave it off for 30 minutes then turn it on. that should help.

Or you could do a manual degauss. To do so, you would need one of these:

$25 at Arcadeshop....

o_O so this chasis requires manual deguass? Never done it before, I guess I'll have to learn.

Some do, some don't. Unless you have a Degauss button on the chassis, or an On-Screen Menu with a Degauss function, try the power off thing first, then try the manual degauss.

Or, rotate the cab slightly and see if it changes...

Never tried it myself, but I've seen a Weller Soldering Gun (the big bastards) or electric drill used to degauss. Hold the Drill/Gun Parallel to the monitor, about 6" or so away from the front of the monitor (with monitor on). Turn on the Drill/Gun and slowly circle it in front of the monitor (only ever seen it done counter-clockwise, not sure if it matters at all). As you are circling, move the Drill/Gun slowly away from the monitor (keeping it on the entire time). Do this until you are happy with the image on the screen. Once happy, make sure the Drill/Gun is several feet away from the monitor and turn it off (Drill/Gun).

Or, buy a proper degaussing coil and follow the instructions that come with it... I bought one and then about a week later found out about the Drill/Gun method from Randy Fromm...

I have a new astro city and I don't have any degauss button on it. Maybe theres a degauss button on the chassis but I don't feel like trying to find it on the pcb.

Can you buy a degauss coil from a major department store (best buy, frys, etc) or do you have to buy them online?

I believe Fry's has them. Website says $40.
