Whats a decent score on Gyruss?
Got up to 90,000 last night, died right before I got to Jupiter.
Love this game, this has to be a top ten classic.

i am happy if i get a hundred but i have a friend who thinks twice that is hardly even a real game!!! my high is about 175, roughly the same as my high on galaga

+1 on it being a great game. I bought mine from a fellow klov member about 11 years ago. He bought it from an op who had stored a bunch of games in an abandoned church, which had most of its windows broken out, causing water damage on most of the games. Gyruss was one of the games he was able to save that had no damage. My high is 213K.

Back when it was in the local arcade I could play all day on a quarter. No idea what the difficulty was set at or what my score was. :(

I do remember getting to the same planets multiple times though.

I'll get back to you later after I've had some time to retrain on my new multi. :D (Yeah, the sound sucks.)

yeah i traded mine to a local klover. I had space issues at the time.
great game!

Love Gyruss. When I was a kid the dunkin donuts on Warren ave in Detroit had one. I rode my bike there every weekend to play. I was able to get thru earth several times on a quarter. Would love to own one.

Gyruss was one of the first 3 games I bought many years ago along with Millipede and Mario Bros widebody. All were fun games that sucked me into this whole mess.

I have always had a Gyruss, and always will own one. It is one of the best games ever IMHO. I can usually get to around 150,000 and of course are always trying to gain more points. I have found out a bit of a trick for me, play a few games of Gyruss go as hard and as long as you can each game. Then transfer over to Galaga its a trip, I can trade over and hit level 15 easy just due to the slowness of game play vs Galaga game play. At least I think its a fun trick. Outstanding game in any realm.

I don't play my games much unless people are over. I was at a buddy's last weekend and played his that he just picked up. It had the wrong joystick in it, and I hadn't played it in a year (and I got killed on level 1!), but I still managed to post a 200k+ score on my first game. Died one warp from Earth. Kept forgetting the entry patterns of the higher levels.

Usually I don't lose my first guy until level 18 or so, so I was a bit bummed. If you can get to Earth and get past the levels just after it, then you start over at the same difficult and should be able to hit the 400k's pretty easily...

Gyruss is my all time favorite game. I love it. I have all the parts for one (-cab which i will have to scratch build) but have them in a generic cab at the moment to play. Here is my best achievement so far

I love this game. I can get past Mars, and to Earth if I don't psych myself out and die in between. 220K is a great score for me.

There was an eatery at the college I went to with lots of tables in wehich I used would study (I commuted). This game had a distinct sound when someone got to the high score page, and when I heard it I knew i had to check the game to protect my ranking. The sounds in this game will always take me back to those days in that specific location.

I agree, it's an awesome game. The sound is great (HORRIBLE on the multigame), the control scheme is cool, and it's really fast paced.

I noticed that too... a have a friend here that builds multi-cades and I was testing one out and, of course, had to try out Gyruss... ... so sad. Sounded like you were playing the game through 3 daisy-chained hearing aids, all set on low.

I love the game so much I have a board here just waiting for a cabinet. I don't go out of my way to stock up on stuff I don't plan on using... but I got the board, built an adapter, and repaired the thing with NO cabinet to even put it in... yet. I just know that the game is on my list of stuff I want, and now it's just playing the waiting game to get a decent cabinet. ... in the meantime, it stays plugged into my JAMMA machine just for the attract mode sounds.

What does a Gyruss to JAMMA adaptor look like and what are the specs?
I think I need a dedicated cab so I can experience what the toccata is supposed to really sound like -all I have is the crappy 60 version ..

The drawback to playing Gyruss is that I have to play it cross-handed because the joystick is on the left.

I got pretty good at it playing it that way for a month in 2010, but I am really more comfortable with the joysticks on the right or in the middle of a control panel.

The exceptions to this are Mario Bros. and Vs. Super Mario Bros. I somehow got used to the left-hand format on those two games back in the 80s.

I have no idea what my scores used to be, but I used to get past Earth and keep going. I haven't played it in awhile. I love the stereo sound and music.
