I'm looking at buying a Gyruss that has been converted to a "Star Force" I was hoping some one out there would be familiar with both games and let me know what I would need to do to make it a Gyruss again... I'm not sure if I will need to replace the wiring harness or not. I know I would need to get a Gyruss board. attached are some pictures of the game, boards and wiring.

Well... looks like Star Force does have a different pinout than Gyruss so you will need to do some work on the wiring. Nothing horrible but it's not plug and play. Looks like it has the original Gyruss joystick still ("monroe" joystick) so that's good.

A marquee and the aforementioned PCB should have you in business.

The cabinet looks very nice... good save.

Is the original side art there? Links are broken for me. There are stencils available if you would need them.

You would need a Gyruss harness. Pictures of the cabinets condition may help.

Bam!! They work! :) Thanks.

That is a nice looking Gyruss. Worth it all the way.

Can I use the same connectors or do I need to replace them? If I use the same connectors do I need to move pins? Is there a website with the pinouts of these 2 games... Thanks Kevin

Since they both seem to have an 18 pin edge connector, you could simply move the pins from where they are (Starforce pinout) to where they need to be (Gyruss).

You can get the pinouts lots of places but this would be an easy spot and they are both there:

Should be against the plexi, but flipped vertically from those pictures, so the horizontal part is across the bottom (hiding the cardboard that hides the speakers)

So the bezel in these pictures is in upside down?
Yeah, that one is upside down. As JDGr said, the horizontal piece should be on the bottom to cover the speakers, not at the top near the marquee.

Thanks for all the help and feedback.. I decided to buy the game, and I will pick it up the game the first of November.

Any leads on a working Gyruss board and a marquee?

I will also have a spare "Star Force" board and Marquee if anyone is interested.

Gyruss to Jamma

The easiest way to put the gyruss back together is use a original Konami 36 pin harness or just make it jamma with a Konami to jamma adaptor. I can do it for you if you need. Remember me, the guy with the War pinball from the 2010 pinball at the zoo.

I have both a working board and marquee for sale. Make me an offer on it and we will need to ad $30 for shipping as the glass marquee will need to be put in a larhe box to keep it safe. I just received a Qix one the other day so I can repack this into the packaging and it should be safe.

I cam also include the edge connector and some wiring so you can easily splice it back into your cabinet.

I don't think I've ever seen a glass Gyruss marquee....

Hmmm. Not sure about this one now as it is different from all the repro stuff and the KLOV picture. Here is the one that is on my converted Pengo cab. Maybe this was a version sold in for kits????
