I picked up a Police Trainer game that the monitor was not working in. I repaired the monitor and throw it in there today and start a game. The guns work (ie, they shoot fine) but I can not hit any targets. Right now I just threw the monitor in there and thats it. Is there something I need to do to "sync" the guns or something? It will not hit any targets and I can put the guns right up to the monitor with the same results...

Yeah, I found that in the manual. But, it seems my TEST button dosent work. Just great. Off to a bad start to the day...

nm, the TEST switch does work, just not with this damn game! why do i have such bad luck today...

If you can see the screen flash when you pull the trigger but not see that the game is registering a shot on the screen then there might be a problem with your opto sensor. Open the gun up and make sure everything is plugged in and that none of the legs on the opto sensor are broken. The lens or monitor might be dirty, that would cause the same issue.

Screen brightness is also an issue - make sure it's bright enough.

With that, make sure the room is dark enough, and we had some trouble with a few gun games at the arcade where the neon on the walls was causing the guns to not register correctly.

adjusted brightness, game recognizes shots now. still cant access test menu to calibrate damn guns though.

Since you verified the test button does work (I'm assuming by using your LE board) it sounds like the problem is on the board itself. According to the schematics the circuit path is as follows... Test pin is 15 on the jamma connector (it's marked on the board). Goes thru RS124 (a 1k resistor) to pin 13 on chip U135. There is also a pull up resistor to Vcc (4.7k in RP105) and a capacitor to Gnd at CF124. All of those components are right near the test pin on the jamma connector.

Make sure there isn't a bad solder joint and that RS124 and CF124 didn't get popped off the board since they're surface mount. If you have a meter first check that you have a good connection at the jamma connector. Might just be that the pin in the connector isn't making good contact with that particular board. Then check that the resistors aren't opened up.
