"Guitar Hero Vending"

Saw one in person, doesn't draw a crowd....which doesn't surprise me because most of us are embarrassed by our air guitar skills.

I saw one at a dave and busters. Wasnt really impressed. Was just the home game pretty much. All the songs listed I have at home already. If it was songs they didnt have at home, I would have considered trying it.

I have one in both of my game rooms and they do fairly well. The "Vending" part is just this persons website. There is no vending involved on these. There is supposed to be some updates for songs but have not seen any yet. They are based off GH3 PC version. Since we got it in April. It has almost paid for itself.

We have two of these on route and they pull big money. I am still worried about kids breaking the guitars. Hasn't happened yet.

I do believe this is going to eventually have tournament mode on it too. I am not positive about this but I think thats what I heard. Big Buck Hunter Safari has tournament now so maybe this one will as well.

I played one in Toronto and wasn't that impressed... there's one in the Walmart in Sault Ste Marie too.

I don't really see the point -- anyone who wants to play it probably already has the exact same thing at home for free already. It's a game that was meant for play at home on the plastic instruments. Compare it to DDR where playing at the arcade is a vastly different (IMO superior) experience from playing on even the best home pads... GH at the arcade is identical to GH at home, except the instruments are heavier and it costs you each time you play. Meh.

I saw one of these on the Disney Wonder over the summer (my in-laws took us on vacation). I can't say that I'd ever play one.

Obviously (and thankfully) the opinion of the game expressed here in this forum has nothing to do with the actual results in the real world. We have close to 80 of these things on our route and they all do very well.

Maybe so. I have seen two on route here and I have yet to see anyone playing either of them. It would have done better if it hadn't already been played to death by everyone at home FIRST. Ass backwards.

Have to get used to that (something released for the home market that does well then becoming an arcade piece). I could see how it would have appeal out in the public - one could show off and stuff on the machine after playing it at home. I don't expect to see many translations from home console to arcade, though. I guess the most famous was Choplifter back in the 1980's. Lode Runner was another.

I know an operator that hated the idea of the home consoles become as good as or better than the arcade machines and that has come to pass. That, to him, was truly the end of the arcade game as a viable business. Maybe there is some room for both but it is mighty crowded and arcade pieces seem to be losing...

I was the game producer on GH 1-2 home versions.

The arcade version was on a HD monitor that had latency so it's actually a poor experience.
They did a quick license of the PC version for Raw Thrills to convert to an arcade version.

The explanation of it's relative success is that kids seem to like showing off their skills and scores. GH3 is known as the poorest version to date so go figure... the ported the worst version.

I think it boils down to the age group that this game caters to. Marketing and their infinite wisdom knows what age group to target to make money. Me - 38 and couldn;t care less about playing this in the arcade. However I play it on my xbox360 ;)
I just don't want to get my ass handed to me by a 12 year old girl

Actually, I disagree. My son discovered these over the summer at Disney and played the heck out of them. He usually had to wait in line to play as well. It wasn't about "having played them to death", it was about posting his initials on the board as one of the best. 20 years later and that's still a draw...
