Ok even though I am somewhat new here, I have loved arcade games since Chuck E Cheese was actually cool;
so my quandry is that I LOVE Robotron 2084, always have, always will. Obviously, I am not the only one with this passion, but here in lies the guilt. I do not own a Robotron;

I, at first got my fix using MAME using thumbs; well that sucked, so I got an x-arcade box and was momentarily happy using two joysticks to get my butt kicked. But FF a few years and I find a lovely 19-1 that I can put in a JAMMA cab; sweet, I get my Robo fix. Well, then comes along the realization that I can get a Jrok board which is even more proper!!! and that is what I utilize to play Robotron today....

And without a doubt, when it is time for some arcade action, morning, afternoon or evening, I flip the switch for the the cab that has Robotron! To play Robotron! It could be a disease...

So should I finally pony up and get a dedicated Robotron?? :D

Are you at least playing with the 4" 8-way Wico Joysticks? the microswitches suck for this game..

Wait... I just saw this post in another thread... :rolleyes:

Wait for a really good deal is my advice. ;) Good, fast, and cheap. Pick any two.

I believe you are right, I would not regret buying a dedicated upright; though I may neglect other games..

The best thing about this game is that you can walk up to it, play a game/couple/few games and walk away within (usually) 15-20 mins. Plenty of other time to play the others :D

I hear what you are saying, but I can't leave Robotron until I have reached at least 300K; and some nights that may take a while.. lol.

I got mine non-working for $50. Already had Williams parts at home, and now have a very nice working Robotron. I was playing it 20 minutes after I had it home, but did some further bullet-proofing to make sure it stays that way...

$50.00 non-working is a mighty nice deal!

I picked my cabinet up for $25, bought the boardset untested on Ebay for $30 shipped. It took 3 or 4 RAMs and recompressing the ROM ribbon cable. The bezel was the most expensive part at $65 shipped. One of these days I'll actually get around to painting the sides and making it look original. That is not a big deal as I have it "sandwiched" between two other cabs so you can't see the sides anyway.

I may have one for sale around January, but unfortunately it won't be cheap. But it will have a Completely new robotron Cabinet, freshly stenciled, new marquee, bezel,overlay, ram upgrade, rebuilt monitor etc. and it will be in ohio.

Maybe find one that was converted and restore it? It's not going to be cheaper (well maybe it is with Xmas time price inflation), but at least it's gives you a kind of built in payment plan because you can take your time gathering the parts.

I bought mine 3 years ago, 9.5/10 condition (came out of a Pizzatime Theater) I paid 675 and put a switcher in it. Since then I added Clays Multi william and configured to play only Robotron,Spat and Bubbles so I can keep the orginal CP on it.

I have seen may game come and go and this is one that I don't consider selling anytime soon.
