Guess what this is?

Whoa!!!

Way back when, you mentioned that you had some 720 stuff deep in your storage of saved Atari goodness... I never thought it was anything like this.

I'm really curious if it looks like anything that's useable, or if you have any documents that show how it would have functioned.

Very cool man. Thanks for sharing.

that's pretty cool. Not sure if I could imagine playing 720 with that. I'd bet the cabs would have gotten worn to heck in the area where that would have mounted.

Looks like it it "pump"activated. You push down on the controller to make the guy skate.
It would be the same as hitting the skate button on the control panel.

I have another piece, which is a prototype controller for 720. Maybe we will try and setup a game for California Extreme with the 'kick' controller and the other hand(directional) controller. I don't have a picture of it right now, but I'll post one when I find it.

It's like a disc, with a little handle to turn it.

That is awesome! We are very fortunate that you saved so much of this stuff for history's sake.

It kind of makes sense that the game could be designed to use the foot for the kick button. As most of you know, you can press that button at lighting speed, but about one kick per second is all that the game registers. Yes get that prototype together for CAX.

Thanks for sharing. Skate or die!

That's pretty cool. Mock up wheel and all. A truer emulation would have been to use a mini treadmill type assembly. You would push on it with your foot just like pushing away on asphalt when you are really skating. You could probably even use the same type of opto setup as the rotary joystick. Have two axels that the rubber loop fits around and put the opto assy on one of them...or maybe just a big round cylinder with just the top 1/8 of it exposed to push on. I could see where something like this could be a slight liability issue, not as little kid friendly. All of this said, I am still totally happy with the way the game plays.

Why does, atariscott have all this atari proto, limited edition or rare stuff??

Needs more griptape, and that wheel has a bad spot. :D

That is pretty cool. And will be even more so if it's playable at CAX!!!
