Guerrilla War - "Joystick Error" message???

Hey all,
So my Guerrilla War game every so often gives me a "Joystick Error" message while I am playing the game. When it does this the screen freezes and I can't do anything except unplug the machine. The sound keeps playing but that is about it.
Any ideas??

These are SNK PCBs that use the Rotary Sticks correct? Are you sure the Rotary switch loom is correctly wired up?

Do you have one or two Rotary Sticks on your cab?

Yeah it is an SNK with rotary sticks. I do have 2 sticks for 2 player.
I am not sure if they are wired correctly. The game plays just fine and then all of a sudden I will get this message on the screen saying "Joystick Error" and the game freezes except for the sound.

What would you suggest my steps be?
I am pretty new at all of this stuff so any help is appreciated!

Sorry for late response, could you take a photo of the Rotary connector going into joystick 1 and a photo of the pcb where the Rotary loom connects, just so I can check your Rotary loom wiring.

error

This can happen with the Happ rotary sticks installed or if the loom is installed backwards. I have had it happen on SNK sticks when they are worn and dirty inside as well.
