Gauntlet 1 or 2 - whats your preference?

Hi. Have a Gauntlet (mini / 2 player) cab and heard that trying to setup the Gauntlet 2 multi switcher was a futile effort - so instead, i swapped Gauntlet 2 chips on the gauntlet board and played that for a month or so.

Today, i switched back to Gauntlet. I like the simplicity of Gauntlet better- although Gauntlet 2 has more to do, it annoyed me in certain aspects - invisible walls are cheap and frustrating, especially in multi player games and waiting for them to figure out the walls, sounds werent as good (doesnt say "Save keys to open doors" - why Not???!!!, i like the melodies between levels on Gauntlet better).
The only advantage i saw was the Dragon (although it could of been BIGGER) and some cool new potions, and the opening sequence music (when the game is powered on - the classic music it plays). I also feel the level design in Gauntlet is more fun.

Made me wonder what others preferences are, and why? Let me know......

for the cabinet graphics, gauntlet I all the way.

for the pcb, I would have to go with gauntlet II, four elves running around like mad is lots of fun. nobody ever wants to be the Valkyrie anyway, unless it is to hear her get hurt. :D

I own the Gauntlet II pcb and, for generic cab use, I think it's the best version (you can easily choose player ...), but I prefer the first Gauntlet as cab.
About the gameplay, the first is better as jonathan explained it.

save keys to open doors lol

I have Gauntlet I & II in my Gauntlet 2-player cabinet and [seamlessly] switch back and forth between the two with the flick of a switch. What makes you think the mod is futile?

I have the instructions for the mod..... Seems pretty straightforward, a bit time consuming maybe (thats ok).

But, there have been three KLOV members who have reported that following the instructions did not warrant good results - something like ROM errors, and they checked their wiring many times over.

I can find the past links if needed, or, if anyone tried it with good or bad results can reply here.

What directions did you use to make the kit? I am referring to these:

I would consider that the crowning achievement of arcade game ownership, myself. Someday... someday.

As for which I prefer, I think I'd go with 2 tonight. Could be 1 tomorrow, though. :)
