Gt fore monitor issues

Yes, from what I hear, Wells puts the same 'quality' (and I use the term loosely) capacitors in the capkits as they did in the monitor originally.

Yeah... I got the schematics already (they came with the cab actually).

I also called 8liners and they said they have a replacement chassis but that it's CGA only. That's not gunna happen.

Your game has a dip switch to change it to CGA. Doesn't make much of a difference in quality, btw...

I ended up paying $250 out the door. Probably a little high, but I really wanted a Fore... I love the older Golden Tees. Eventually I'll pick up a complete.

I'd say that is a good price. That was a 1500 plus game only 5 years ago.

And that monitor, when working properly is worth at least 400. It is a tri res.

Good scoop.

Alright... I was finally able to get back to this monitor. I recapped it using the components Bob Roberts sent me. The kit did not include the uf490 35v I caps I think it was... the two at the back left of the chassis... it included 12 other caps.

After recapping I now have a nice stable screen... but it still has color issues / a green haze over everything. Using the easy to access red line I tested each pin at the monitor... they all showed SOMETHING. I noticed that Red showed very little... Green showed the most... but Blue showed a lot as well... and they were all green...

These shots were all taken with the brightness turned to the max, all colors maxed out except green which was turned down to nothing....contrast at max too...

Now...normally I'd think this was a bad tube... only the green gun was firing... until you see the on-screen menu...

Any suggestions?

Have you done the reset lately? Got another JAMMA board you can plug in there to see if it's the monitor or the video card on the GT boardset?

The reset puts it back to factory which is very dark... still green (though dark)...

...same issue with different board.

Hell, when I have just the sync pin connected and no RGB... the screen still has a green tint to it... so it's not the board or the harness... it's for sure the chassis... right?

Have you checked the tube? Do you have a rejuve/tester?

I had a monitor that had a real red issue. Red cast over everything. It was the tube. I fixed it with a rejuve.
EDIT - I see what you say about the onscreen menu. That's crazy!

Since your onscreen menu box looks okay, I'd assume the monitor is okay. After you did your reset, did you turn the brightness and contrast up in both the factory and regular menu? And did you adjust up or down your color gains?

Got a 60-in-1 board lying around? If so, hook up the VGA (changing the plug from CGA/EGA to VGA on the small input board) output of the 60-in-1 and see what it looks like...

Color gain has all been turned up. Factory and regular menu has been set. Brightness and contrast has been increased. I've eliminated the PCB and harness as the culprit because the green issue happens even when no RGB signal is fed to the monitor... just the sync... (if I remove sync it goes black because the monitor shuts itself off with no sync signal).

I don't have a 60-in-1 lying around unfortunately. I did plug a Taito Multigame board in and ran it CGA with the same green results. The GTFore runs at EGA with the same result...

:(

GOOD NEWS! Mod... I went in to the factor menu and reset. It did jack squat. But then I noticed the GAIN option that allows me to also adjust bias etc... I ASSUMED it was the same as the regular menu's GAIN options...oh how wrong I was. The GREEN was maxed out... Blue was down to 30... etc. Needless to say after some tweaking the screen looks GREAT now. Well... almost great (I need to tweak a little more)...

Now, the only remaining minor issue showing up is there is a slight "wave" going from top to bottom... it's nothing major, but its' there... Any idea where to look?

I've seen that before and sometimes find that it is board specific.

But - if you've already replaced EVERY cap, and touched up any cold solder, I'm not sure what else there is to do to fix that except maybe replace the sync IC...

BTW - glad you got it working. I guess I should have been clearer in saying to check the color gains in the factory menu, too. I guess you can remove that WTB ad for a 9200 now...

Yup... I replaced 12 of the larger caps... that is what Bob sent me. He did show 2 470uf 39v caps ( do believe) that he didn't include in the kit but appeared on his list (which he indicated NOT INCLUDED under)... I think he was out of them (he puts these kits together custom for the D9200).

Most of the caps were actually higher voltage than what is called for... and in 2 instances they were too big physically to sit flush on the boardset due to heatsinks/other components near by... but I got em in with a little work.

There are a TON of other caps on the board though... many small ones... and a few larger ones that didn't come with the kit. Also, there is a big cap or two on the neckboard that didn't come with the kit.

I've got the complete cap kit list somewhere. I think I posted it here somewhere, too. I always do all the caps (except filter and NP/BP) when doing a cap kit...

I had some time to go out and adjust the monitor. After adjusting the settings in the factory menu and then re-adjusting the settings on the regular menu...and then adjusting the focus on the flyback I now have an absolutely stunning looking monitor. The wave appears to have gone away (my guess was the factory gain/bias was too high)...

Needless to say I am absolutely thrilled. I just pulled at -8 at Blue Horizon on my first game (I've never played GT Fore before)...

Is there any way to access the other two courses that are available in "tournament mode" or something?
