Growing Up in Arcades 1979 - 1989

Wow. Here's a good one of a Tecmo Bowl cabinet I've not seen before:

I'm used to them looking like this:

Look what they did to the Track & Field buttons in this photo. No sub-10 second 100m dash on that machine!

Good eye. Looks like you could hurt your fingers with those!

Other interesting things:

Demolition Derby UR. Nice!

Track & Field CT

The Games pinball. Aren't these rare?

Q*Bert CT

Q*Bert w/swearing marquee

Speed Buggy with 3 monitors. How cool!

Surely someone here owns both Karate Champ and Commando in the dedicated cabinets.

I saw both in a warehouse years ago and probably could have got em cheap, but picked up other games, maxing out on space and budget.

I love the line up in this shot:

Karate Champ: the first arcade game I ever played (aside from the one time I played Pac-Man when I was 5), and the first one I ever got good at. I was in 4th grade, 1984, and the game was new. I remember there was this fat 5th grader with sticky hands (from candy and soda) that smelled like he hadn't yet been house-broken, that was always on the machine. I liked the game well enough that I played despite the sticky joysticks and lingering stench.

Nice. I rocked KC early as well. It wasn't the first game I played, but it was a game where I could definitely "make a quarter last." It was my first arcade game purchase though!

Looks like a Cinematronics cab all the way to the right.... I don't think it's space ace as the marquee is missing graphics but it is blue. Hmmm, i wonder if its a Super Don conversion. Anyone have a guess?

I always thought Circus Charlie said Circus Chablie back in the day. Could never understand wth a Chablie was?? Didn't care, the game was fun and difficult.
