Grey Vs. Cabinet to Black Playchoice 10 Conversion/Restoration

I started with a grey Vs. Cab that I picked up as a Dr. Mario 4 years ago. Decided I hated the grey from the very first time I laid eyes on it. It sat and sat in my garage, as it needed bondo work and there were mice nests all over inside of it.

Fast forward to this year, I decided it was time to make my dreams come true. It was time for me to own the nicest *dedicated* Single Monitor Playchoice 10 in history. I bondoed all the corners, sanded the cabinet, painted it a nice even satin black, then covered the whole cabinet in Black Pica Vinyl. It turned out gorgeous. Next was to apply Rich's repro Nintendo logo stickers and the NOS PC-10 art I had picked up from g3n3ric about 3 or so years back. Got that on in pretty quick fashion, the only problem was that there were a few adhesive-less ripples on the side art from being stored folded for 20 years. I did my best to heat them, burnish them, buff them, ect, but they aren't going away. The good part is that you really can't see them due to the design of the art, so I will live with it for now. Took the marquee brackets and coin doors in for powdercoating. I had the Sanyo out for cleaning and capping, but I was short a few caps so it sat for a while. Well, today I had the day off and decided to wrap this project up once and for all. First I finished capping the monitor and audio board. Next I installed a new flourescent fixture, as this cab never came with one. I then went and found the original tinted tempered glass bezel, cleaned it, polished it, buffed it and installed it. I then went inside to cut my Ninty mullet and black paper bezel from black posterboard. Installed those items. Then I went and stripped my old DK-cab painted black PC of it's entire nearly mint condition PC-10 kit. The C P is nearly flawless, the marquee is NOS with the paper backing still on, and the gameboard and timer are clean and fully functional. I took some finished pics at high noon today. Enjoy:

EDIT: Almost forgot, thanks a million to Bill (audiomidiman) for running that white offset T-molding. That was the other reason I let the cab sit so long. There was no replacement molding available for it. Thanks to Bill, now there is. The shit is tight.

I just ran a DMV report on your license plate. How many DUIs do you have to be convicted of before they suspend your license?

Oh, and freaking beautiful cabinet!

It's already suspended. I was driving while incoxicated. Or was that Fritz? In any case I think we both got nailed.

That is the nicest single monitor PC10 I have ever seem, great work.

Where is the speaker at in those style cabs?

Thanks Tom and great question. See the little black mesh area above the bezel? Speaker's mounted behind it, but facing down not out.

Man! Ive been holding out for the black tmolding to get run to put on my playchoice and vs dual, but maybe I should throw the white on, that stuff looks good!!!!

First of all, great looking machine, i want a pc 10 next!

Secondly, Ive read about a few guys using vinyl, why do you paint it first? from the work ive done including a few cars and recently a custom vewlix, once my primer/sealer is sanded, any blemishes you would have at this stage would also show in paint? I was going to use vinyl on my MB machine any advice is appeciated.

Trust me, you wanna put down a base coat that is very close to the color of vinyl you are installing. The color you are putting it over can greatly influence the final color. I suspect in this case that by him painting it black first it resulted in a "blacker" black.

It never ceases to amaze me the astounding work you always do on these games. Looks fucking kick ass, nice job! (wish I could make a game look that nice)
