I have a couple of Gremlin games with power supply issues. (Hustle and Head On).

I noticed that Bob Roberts has a switching power supply available that has -12 instead of -5 (just like these games want). Can I just wire one of those up or do the power supplies on these gremlin games do more than just supply voltage?

Mwp-606

You can pick up a MWP-606 from Competitive Products for around $42 shipped. It has +5 volts at 15 amps, +12 volts at 4 amps, and -5 volts at 1 amp, with a max output of 104 watts continuous.

Here is the link to their website (which isn't that good):

No, I need a style with -12 volts not -5 volts.

The real question is if the gremlin power supplies do anything other than supply voltage. Not sure if they are also audio amps or do any other weird tricks.

Audio Amps

From what I can see, they have an audio amp on some games (Zaxxon, for example).

Sorry, I miss-read your original question on the voltage issue. My bad.

I looked at the manual for Hustle, and it shows +17 volts, +9 volts, +12 Volts, +5 volts, -17 volts and -12 volts (in lower right corner of diagram 807-0002B, above the tombstone for the drawing) same thing on your manual (which you may be able to find here on this site for Hustle: http://www.arcade-museum.com/manuals-videogames/H/Hustle.pdf) A manual for the other game is available on eBay for 99 cents right now.

The speaker in this case "floats" - it isn't tied to ground. That is how it looks in the manual.

I'd meter out your current power supply leads, find the weak link(s) and try to get the parts to fix them. They are pretty simple.
