Hi all,

I recently purchased a house, and one of my friends is giving me an old cabinet as a housewarming gift... actually, her father says it needs to get out of his house, and her condo is too small for it.

Here's the kicker - it's a Nintendo VS Dualsystem upright - currently with the Top Gun and DK ROMs (if i recall correctly). I haven't played it myself yet, and am told that both sides work well, but the monitors are showing their age a bit.

I figured I'd start looking around for information, and stumbled on this site almost by accident. Any advice or tips would be welcome, as I am quite new to all of this.

I'm in my late 30s and living in the northern Cincinnati, Ohio area. I work in IT as a helpdesk phone jockey. I'm very happy to get my hands dirty getting everything in order, but as a divorced father of three, my time is a bit short for projects and the like.

I've also been thinking of making my own cabinet for a digital jukebox. One of my absolute favorite arcade games from yesteryear was the original Star Wars game... but apparently, it's on just about everyone's favorite list.

Welcome!! Congrats on picking up your first game. The monitor section is where you want to start researching, your more than likely gonna want to cap those monitors which isnt to hard and a great way to get started in the hobby. You can search cap kit in the search box and get a hundred threads. Check some stickys in the monitor section first though.

Bit of warning, once you start.. your gonna want more..

Congrats and welcome aboard. That will be one beast of a machine ( size wise). I have always wanted one myself but have a red tent that I am very happy with.
Most definitely look over the monitor section as previous mention, caps kits are usually in order with just about any older machine. Just like to mention if you are looking for capacitors, you can get them at a local electronics shop if you have one ( not radio shack) , plenty of people have kits on eBay, people on here sell them, a good place to order kits and other parts from is http://therealbobroberts.net/ if you do mind sending a check ,he is very good guy to deal with.
Good luck and hope you enjoy your stay here.

Welcome to KLOV!

Rest assured that most things that would cause monitors to 'show their age' can be repaired and if you don't want to mess with it right now there are folks here that can fix them for you and save you the hassle for a relatively modest cost.

Welcome! Before you know it you will have a garage and basement full, as well as begging friends and neighbors for more space lol
