Hi guys!
My name is Max and I've been lurking around KLOV for a long time. I always enjoyed playing arcade games but I very rarely had the opportunity to play original classics. All the arcades in Tampa, with the exception of Tampa Lanes, are littered with the same games and crappy Multicade machines. There used to be a restaurant called "Pop City" that had some great dedicated, mint machines like Donkey Kong and (my favorite) Tron, complete with blacklight and original joystick. I'm not the best at lightcycles and tanks, but boy, that cabinet is so beautiful.
I've always been a huge fan of Tron and I have a bit of a collection, part of which includes two animation cells from the movie. I also have a bunch of same type of hockey and motocross gear that the crew used for the program costumes. I made my own Tron helmet out of one of the Cooper hockey helmets and put automotive reflective tape on it for the circuitry. The result is a helmet that glows just like the movie, when a picture is taken with camera flash. Here's a picture of Bruce Boxleitner wearing my Tron helmet, which is one of the greatest things I have ever witnessed.
I'm also a big fan of the movie "Wreck-it Ralph" and it helped me rediscover my love of arcade games. I had the great opportunity to head over to DisneyQuest in Downtown Disney Orlando and play Fix it Felix Jr., which was loads of fun. It was also the first time in a long time that I was able to play Tron again, but the blacklight was out and the joystick was replaced by the new black plastic Happ replacement with the horrible 8-way restrictors, so playing lightcycles was pure hell. They had a Discs of Tron as well, but the spinner was not in the best working condition either. What was cool was they had a Tron cabinet next to a FIFJr so I got a kick out of seeing two awesome games together.
And yes, I took that soda cup off of the FIFJr. I didn't see until after I took the photo, lol.
I'm sure I'll have a great time here. Thanks so much for reading!
