Didn't see a New members board so I guess I'll post this here.

26 year old guy from NY. I unfortunately was laid off recently and have decided to just relax this summer and head to school for a second degree in the fall. In the mean time, one of the things I've always wanted to do was own a classic arcade cabinet. I was always very fond of Ms Pac Man and I got around to finding one that hopefully will be on my possession within the week.

I'd figured I may as well buy myself something to pass the time between working out and cleaning around the house as well as some guitar time. So why not this game?

I guess I'm doing it because even though I have gamed since the NES era, my 360 is just getting duller and duller. Chances are I will be selling a lot of my games soon just so that way they can go to someone that will give em some attention.

Anyway, here are some of the pics of the cabinet I will be picking up.

The guy I'm picking it up from has told me he did some restoration to it. There are no marquees on the sides, all new wires, board and IIRC, he has replaced the stock monitor with the same one found on the cab. Going to be inspecting it when I get there. Any things I should look for?

Like I've said, this will be my first cabinet and I hope I will be able to learn a lot from you guys here.

Cheers!

Welcome.

Might I point out something? A Ms. Pac-man without the original sideart and kickplate art is like a Ferarri that is painted plaid.

There also seems to be a shitload of screen burn on that tube, so hopefully that doesn't bother you when you play.
Still, if it's bought for the right price, congrats. I'm sure it open the gateway to more games for you.

Well, the guy is pricing it $500 but he says I can inspect it to check everything is right and won't be bothered if I just say no and leave. But thanks for the input. Like I said, I don't know much about stuff like burns on these cabs so it's good to know something new right away.

Well, I'm sure the guy put some time and effort and probably some fresh parts in there. But I wouldn't spend anymore than $300 on that cab. And that's if you REALLY wanted that game. Without the exterior arts, it loses alot of it's charm. And that is some severe tube burn for that kind price. These things turn up fairly often. When they do a really nice one will be bought for around $600-$700.

The attached picture is of a Ms.Pacman that I bought for $300. Worked 100% no screen burn and all graphics.

Hope this might help steer you into the KLOVer mind set of "Everything I want, I'd like to get for cheap". :)

If you like this particular machine, and things work, no price is really "wrong".

That being said, IMHO, I'd say no and not show up at $500. For me, that's about a $250 machine if it's fully working.

Welcome!

Thanks for all the input guys. Went and did some more searching around and found another Ms Pac Man with all the marquee and artwork on the cabinet. I've sent the seller an email so I hope they will contact me soon.

Sounds like your getting off to a good start. :)
Welcome.

Yeah unless those pictures were taken before he replaced the monitor, that's not $500 worth of cabinet anywhere. Hopefully the other one works out better for you. Welcome, say goodbye to your space and money, and check out the repair forums, there's a ton of great stuff in there.

And Psicosis is way better. ;)
