Hello all knowledgeable arcade buffs. My name is Nathan (feel like I am at an A.A. meeting) and I reside on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I need help if possible. Years ago I would go camping and at the campsite clubhouse they had the Star Trek Captain's Chair by Sega. Every year we went for four years I would feed quarters left and right into this critter. In fact I even remember a cereal promotion (Captain Crunch maybe?) where you could win one of these units.
Now my question for you. I could never afford to buy a non working unit. Does anyone know where I could get a blueprint of sort for the cabinet? Measurements or something. I have scoured the 'net for about three weeks for some sort of dimensions for it and no luck. I hate to ask you this, so I scoured this board also and have not found a post, if there is I apologize. It would be greatly appreciated if this were available somehow. I could build it over time and mame it as a dedicated unit. Thanks so much,

Nathan

I see these go for around $500 for a non-working one around oregon here. Given that price, you'd be better waiting to buy it non-used and mame-ing it or whatever. You could EASILY spend that kind of dough for all the wood, hardware, plastic mouldings, t-moldings, bezels, art, etc, etc etc.

I give you props for the ambition to want to try to construct it, but man oh man, you'll wish you just bought a dead one and rebuilt.

I cant answer your question as to the dimensions, but you would be surprised at what you can get non working games for.

What kind of price did you have in mind to make it seem that you would never be able to afford one?

You might try checking the manual if it has some more, but since it is not wood, your going to have a hard time coming close. Some of these things have gone for a couple hundred. Seems like you might just want to find one on the cheap. I thought someone sold one possibly working up in VT for $150 a year or so ago to just get rid of it since he needed the room. So if your willing to drive to get one, your odds go up.

Well first off the area I live in. I called multiple dealers and such and no one would even give me the time of day, and two my luck was never that good! If I could even find one in this area.

Dealers as you are calling them (or OPs, or retail places) aren't your friend if you are trying to find a deal ;)

Search CL, ebay, and ask around here. 1/2 the fun is in the hunt.

"Dealers" prices are extremely high. You will be better off asking around, watching Craigslist and eBay and posting a wanted ad here.

I must say I have never seen so many responses so fast! It is nice to be able to play the game again. But I want more!

Nathan....where are you located? I've seen several over the years, many of them DOA. Be patient, and don't waste the time building one yourself. The cockpit Star Trek has so much plastic on it that unless you have access to an injection molding shop, it'll never look right.

Try posting in the wanted section, keep an eye out on egay, CL....and make as many contacts on KLOV as possible. Someone knows where one is most likely.

Good luck, welcome, and keep us posted on your progress.

Most retailers won't even pick up the phone for you unless you're willing to put down 4-5x what a game is worth. You're better off waiting and asking around. On the bright side, with KLOV you've just tapped into a HUGE resource of buyers and sellers and folks who know how to fix stuff.

Welcome to the madness!!! :D

I am currently working on an old cabinet which apparently use to be Taito polaris? It was turned into bowlorama. I saved the jamma board and the voltage regulator? pardon my nomenclature ingnorance.

I have 4 of them and if you want call me and I will give you the measurements. I am shark fishing this week and will be back in shop on Monday. Call me Toll Free at 1-888-867-3001 ask for Dale or otherwise known as Shitty Retailer around here.

I did say most Dale. ;) You're ok in my book, no matter what everyone else says about you. :D:cool:

There has certainly been some Dale bashing on here... But if he has four of them and will do something in your price range, I would go look. If his prices are too high (which they might be since he is retail) then take him up on his offer.

I say this as I stand back looking around for haters!

What the #$^ is sticking out where the buttons go for the right hand on the seat unit?

I think you are talking about the stick controller (on right) and knob/spinner (on left). Haven't seen/played ST sit down in years. You can't see the stick control in the flyer image posted earlier but the spinner is there.
