Hello everyone!!

I'm new. Love the site! Between this and BYOAC, what more could a guy ask for?

I spent a ton of time in arcades as a kid. Then once Mortal Kombat came out, I was basically an arcade monkey spending all of my time with a token on the machine through MKI, II, III, and Killer Instinct. It's been a dream of mine to own arcade games for a long time. Also a HUGE fan of sit down racing games!

I've been married for 10 months, and I'm lucky that my wife digs this stuff too. We've come to an agreement. I'm allowed to fill the house with one of each of the following:

4-player upright MAME cabinet as long as she gets a nice jukebox built it.

Cocktail MAME cabinet for vertical games (the little lady is a Ms. Pac man hussler).

2-player side by side sit down driving game.

I have none of the above yet, but I've just started on building my first! Here are a few pics of the empty cabinet I just picked up. Notice the huge coin door hole. I actually posted in the WTB section looking for the extra wide coin door to fill the hole, and I got a reply from a guy selling one, but I could not reply to him because his private message box is full!! Does anyone know a way to contact him???? His username is: orion3311

Here's the link to the WTB post: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=253216

Thanks for all the help!

Welcome, and just a warning... arcade machines are like potato chips.... you start out thinking "Oh, I'll just have 2 or 3"..... next thing you know the bag is gone.

You will find random arcade parts all over the house, you will lose track of what parts you have already bought and find out that you just bought another one because of a great deal.
You end up with a project cab in the kitchen, a 10x20 storage unit filled with games, a wife or girlfriend who has possibly left you.... and pets that may be lost in a sea of arcade games.....
But at the end of the day, you will look at yourself and think "ain't life grand!!"

BTW never underestimate the appeal of lightgun games, either a pointblank or a police trainer. Playing against someone else seems to have a lot more replay value than a rails shooter.

Welcome!! Burn4evr said it right! I have collected 8 games in the last year!

Having a blast!

definitely nice when the wife supports...... :)

Good luck and have fun!

Welcome to the sickness Mr. burbs! I started out with a multi-machine and now I have 12. It's a gateway drug, I'm tellin' ya! Enjoy the hobby and KLOV!

Awesome! I started out with wanting one machine, bought 2 the same day, now 3 weeks later I have 6...hahahaha

For the sit down racing I have 2 san fran Rushes and I love them. I also heard daytona is good for head to head racing.

Wow, thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Welcome! Just wondering if you are the same guy who called me about my empty NARC cabinet I had on CL?

Sorry, I am not the same guy who contacted you on CL, Ghosty! BUT... if it's a free NARC cabinet, then yes, I'm the guy who contacted you!! Hehehe!

Oh, you know it!!! The thing is, I'm torn about what to do about gun games. I have 2 purple Happ recoil guns, and the cabinet I just bought for my 4 player upright MAME project already has purple t-molding, and already has the holes drilled for the gun mounts. However, I don't want to butcher them to use an aimtrak or other Wii-style system, and frankly I don't think those have the same feel as a real light gun. I'm holding out hope that someone will create some kind of solution that will allow me to use my HAPP guns as they are with MAME!!! I'll post pics of my guns as they are tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm a lucky man! She's beautiful AND she digs arcades! Of course, I can't get carried away. Luckily though I'm not one who has to have different dedicated cabinets. I'm fine with multi-games. I just want to have different types ie...an upright, a cocktail, a sitdown racer, a shooter. Yeah, I guess I just added shooter to the list. I see how this can grow!

We'll see! I'm just having fun starting my first project right now!

I would LOVE to have 2 sit down SF Rush machines!!! I'm completely jealous. My all time favorite sit down racer is Sega Indy 500! There was just something about that one. I couldn't keep my quarters out of it!! There's a ton of info about building MAME sit down racers over on the BYOAC forum (don't know if there's much on this forum on the subject), so what I'd like to do down the line is build a double cab that will allow me to play Sega Indy 500 & Daytona 1+2, the Cruisin Games, Ridge Racer, and the SF Rush games. The issue with that I think is the different types of shifter for the different games, but I think it can be done. Oh, and if I could find a good set of 3 pedals in one asembly, I'd throw Hard Drivin and Race Drivin in there too.

I missed out on a Final Lap 3 2 player sit down cabinet with 2 working monitors for $300 recently, and I was really bummed. Thought that might have made a great based for the project, but the wife and I are looking for houses right now, so I couldn't justify it, and also have nowhere to put it until we get our new place!

Anyways, the racing cab in just a dream right now! First let's get the upright built!! HAHA!
