I might asking this a little early because I haven't taken off the back of the cabinet yet, but I just wanted to get an idea of what to possibly look for with this issue.

As you can see from the image the screen is kind of greenish where black should be. What should I look for when I open it up? is this a cap issue, or just some adjustments.

Sorry for the newbish question, I am still just a bit nervous around monitors :).

you can probhably adjust it out. youll be looking to adjust the green gain and cutoffs on the neckboard mostly, but while your at it tweak the other colors, and the focus on the flyback.

when your all done clean the face of the tube. youll be amazed how nice it is when your done.

Well I did a little messing.
I put it in diagnostic mode. Red and Blue look great, then I get to green screen and I adjust the pots to make it look good. Seems like when I do that all the blacks are gone and everything is greenish again.

I will lower the black level (more black I guess) and then adjusting the green again has the same effect. It's like the green adjustments and the black level are just counter picking each other. If that makes sense.

yep keep at it. you could have other issues too but it looks likee just light enough of an issue that could be fixed by adjusting.

usually ill adjust the contrast etc till i get a nice black( where there should be black)( contrast/blk level pots should be about halfway- you can readjust those later)

then adjust down each color pot, turn up untill that color bleeds through, then turn back till the bleeding stops.

Yeah, I think maybe my green is totally gone. I can't get green without a really bright/greenish black.

Does that mean green is gone? And if so, what is the next step?

Thanks for the help.

Ed

If you had another monitor with the same chassis, you could swap the chassis's between the two monitors and see if the problem goes with the chassis or stays with the tube.

If you have your green drive turned all the way up and still don't get enough green on a color test screen, unless you turn the brightness up, you may have a tube with weak green. If that is the case, it can usually be corrected by having someone use a tube tester/rejuvenator.

Yeah, if I turn the green all the way, I have to move up the black/brightness to see it.

So should I look for someone locally that has that equipment? I assume it's pretty expensive to buy?

Ed

if all its doing is just blurring the green, like its everywhere not just where it should be. i think thats what your saying...

if thats the case yeah the tube prolly has a weak green gun. too bad your not local id try to zap it for you.

Are the tester pretty pricey and hard to use?

With as much work as I am starting to do on cabs, is it's a handy tool to have?

Thanks again

Ed

I bought mine since I had 3 tubes with color issues. 2 of them now look great and the othe one wasn't fixable. IMO it paid for itself the first weekend I owned it. And they are fairly easy to use. You can find them on Ebay or post a WTB thread here. A BK 467 or BK 470 are both commonly used in this hobby. A BK 466 is easier to find and usaully cheaper, but requires some re-wiring to make work with the common adapters, so most seem to avoid it.

Another day on the auction. Here is hoping too. I will post back here with my results :).

I just watched a 5 part you tube video walkthrough on the same model. HIs monitor turned out worse than it started. It was just dim, then the blue was gone after he tried the restore. Also on an MK. I hope I have better luck.
