I just bought out what was left of a friend's collection of arcade machines.
3 games. (Supper zaxxon, centipede and a frogger cocktail plus some boards, joysticks and cap kits and a brand new monitor).
While I do like getting a bargain. It still a little sad to see someone who has the love of the games but doesn't have the space for them.
I hope in time he will start collecting again. In the mean time, I will drag him along to the arcade parties...

Lately, I've been trying to get my brother into them. He enjoys them but hasn't broke down to purchase yet. I think my friends are a lost cause but definitely enjoy playing mine once in awhile. At least if there are less and they stay working, there will be more for all of us to pick from.

collectors

you have to have a passion for this and the money and the room. my brother n law comes to my house and says he can have all my game in one cd on his pc or laptop, why do i waste so much money and room, he asks? he does not get it. plus he has to ask his wife for permission to take 20.00 out of atm. f'n loser.

it sucks when you hear folks have to give up and sell everything or even worse, passing away and the family having a fire sale!

Maybe if he had better games he wouldn't have sold them. Those games aren't anything I'd spend too much time with. Just my 2 cents.

What other titles did he have before he got rid of these?

While it's true centipede or frogger are not a rare game. Finding people who love those games are easy to find. Finding someone who love supper zaxxon might be hard to do but I will still spend the time fixing it up. Supper zaxxon might end up in someone arcade for a while after it cab get rebuilt so it will get some play time.

Not many can claim to have or had a Minty dragon's lair.

People who think playing any classic game on a computer is the same as playing the real game are just lost and need to be shown the light..

I also have done this. What I do is buy the machines for the abount that they need at the time, and offer to allow them to buy them back for the same price.

Have done this a few times and it works out well for both sides.

Bought a Home Use Only pinball machine for far below market value. I knew it, the seller knew it. I still have it. When he is ready (which will be likely soon), I will be selling it back to him for what I paid, which is still far below what I could get for the machine.

Kind of like a Pawn Shop, but where there is no time limit. I have the space and, at times, the cash, and they get the cash they need at the time and if they want the machine back at any point, they can get it :)

Other than the pin, I have had a Mad Planets that I got for $50 and then sold back, a Tron that I bought for $100 and sold back, and a Marble Madness that I bought for $150 and sold back. I got to help out friends that were in need, as well as enjoying some good machines for a while.
