Picked up a Gravitar recently and was wondering if anyone knows anything
about how Atari did their serial numbering on these machines, the serial
number on this one is "08004" and it did have one of the Amp. monitors in it originally but at some point it was removed and a WG6100 installed., think there were a total of around 5,700 machines manufactured and if that's the case the numbering for their serial numbers did not start at zero, any ideas ?

So you were the person that won that epay auction? I was looking at that one but it was just too far for me. If you ever decide to get rid of it, PM me.:)
Good luck!

Board works, plays blind, voltages going to the board are good., monitor neck tube glows, but no picture.

Yep that was the one, cleaned up really nice., looks like the monitor needs repaired, plays blind.

Anyone knowledgeable on serial numbers on these machines ?

No idea about the serials, but it was common practice for alot of companies to stagger the numbering convention. Some didnt start at #1, and between machines the increment didnt just add 1 to the last serial etc.

I have serial #00506, was it the 506th game off the line, no idea.

Hope that helps, ha.

Mine is serial #33100. Had it a long time and it's never given me any trouble so I haven't cracked it open for years. So I went to have a look seeing you guys talk about Ampliphones. The video sticker on the back was promising, AM 234224. Was thinking that indicated an Amp monitor.

Open it up and see Tempest hand written in Sharpie on the WG monitor. Doh! Getting a chuckle out of that I glance down at my board and see it's a Black Widow board with a chip swap! At least the roms are original Atari 1982 jobs. Still one of my favorites though, hacked together though it is. The artworks great on both sides and the gameplay's fun.

Hope you enjoy yours.
