As you may or may not know, this years Big Bang festival was postponed until further notice. Out of it's ashes, the Grassroots Gaming festival has arisen. It runs August 5th-7th.
Consoles are well represented. There will be a good selection of arcade machines present(looking for more.) There will even be board games and card games. Contests and prizes. The festival will be held at the Bridge View Center in Ottumwa, IA. Basic tickets are $20 for the whole weekend. The gamer package is $40 which includes a special t-shirt and a goodies package. Today is the last day for the special package, but if anyone is interested in that PM me and i will see what i can do to get you in. We are hoping to find a few more people to bring games if they can. Please see the website for more info. http://grassrootsgamingexpo.com/

Hope to see you there!

I had a good time at this event friday and saturday. Was bummed I couldn't stay through Sunday. There was a pretty respectable classic arcade game showing. This event is turning into Iowa's own mini-CAX.

Steve Sanders put on a Joust clinic. I've never seen the game manhandled like this:

Also, I wasn't paying much attention because I had my hands full with Mr. Dream in the Punch Out tournament, but some 7 minute documentary was shown about arcade collecting, and it ended with the KLOV group shot from CAX '10. I regret not getting in that picture now. I didn't know it was going to be in a movie.

Anyway, congrats to the organizers for a very well run show.

To bad I couldn't make it, PAC man pat is actually stopping by my house Monday to pick up a game from me

ahhh man, that is the Documentary I am working on Called The Video Craze, sorry you couldn't make the group klov photo :( What did you think, what was the response from it, I am curious :)

It was great. I didn't really realize what it was but I kept thinking... man, did somebody make a movie about my exact hobby? Everybody on here is going to love it.

That bit with Mark Alpiger was a little weird. I couldn't hear what he was saying so it just looked like he was flipping off the camera. I guess if I could offer any constructive feedback its this: There are already enough movies out there documenting the... sociably questionable aspects of this hobby. It'd be great to have a really positive take on things.

Cool thank you. I was trying to fit everything I had into a small teaser to show what I have at this point. Really it is about our hobby, and the collective side of it, Alpiger was at Cax and I thought I needed some extra things to spice it up :) I have a ton more people involved that were not shown on the Trailer.

Thanks for all the help loading my games! I hope it's cooler tomorrow when you take off.

Met some interesting cats there today: Check out my souvenier. Met a cool guy named Douglas Paszkiewicz and he did a quick sketch of the Kid and I playing at the expo. Talking with him I discovered he works for Mad magazine and also has created a comic called Arsenic Lullaby.

No problem! It was great meeting you! It wasn't too bad when i was loading. Got home way too late. Walter has a lot of great stories! Didn't get much sleep. Today may not be my most productive day at work.

I wasn't at the event, but I had to check it out on YouTube. AWESOME! Of course the subject matter is right up everyone's alley on this forum, but the production quality and level of polish is amazing.

I'll certainly be following this documentary project from here on out; can't wait to see which direction it takes and what it covers. Every forum member here should check it out and subscribe to VectorInvader's channel.

Thank you Mike :)

I really wanted to get a new take about our hobby, It hasn't been done before.
I really have a passion for this hobby. This is a collective effort with a lot of Arcade collectors who are participating. I really appreciate your comment Mike, as I have been on this for nearly 2 years...haha, this is all new to me doing a film production, I am just a wedding videographer. I have a ton of people who are now involved with it, it has just started getting more feedback. I just got rights to music, which is a huge sigh of relief.

Dave
