I have a space invaders deluxe with some graphics problems. Will post pics of what am talking about later (for I am on iPad). I was wondering if it could be the roms. If so, which ones. The graphics problem don't start up until I coin up game and start to play. Where there are suppose to be spaces where the characters your suppose to shoot. it is a straight line and also up towards the top where the score is. It's got a line under the score too. Was wondering if it's a bad rom.

Thanks in advance

here are pics

here is the problem I am having with this. The first two pics looks to be ok. I thought it had lines in when I coined up but it before that too. Take a look. Sorry for the back pics. I did it on my phone.

thanks in advance

Have you taken apart the daughter card and clean the connectors? Use the SI test rom to help if it's a bad RAM. The test rom is great!

not to ask a stupid question but how do you do the ram or rom test.. I didn't get a manual with this like all the other games I get. LOL. But thanks for the response Troxel and kevinmullins. will do the test tonight. If I can get the locks off the back door.

thanks

Think I fixed

I hit the arcade to try to get bezel out and game stop glitching. So my guess is it a loose connection somewhere. I just ordered a lock picking set so I can get into back door. So I won't know more until they come in next week. Thanks for the additional links. Will help if that's not the problem when I get into game.

Thanks

You can always drill out the lock if you didn't want to wait.

I don't think the bezel will come out with the backdoor being locked.

I'd lean towards reseating the daughterboard first - mine is actually doing the same exact thing and hopefully soon I'll actually be able to do something about it.

If not the daughterboard then could be a ram or addressing issue. The lines actually stop the invaders from getting hit!

Doubt if it's a RAM fault - whenever I've come across such faults (quite often) the problem has ALWAYS been on the sound board. There are a number of chips for the graphics on the sound board and a bad output on one of these can cause the symptom that you are seeing. The chip can be an LS42, LS174 or an LS153, etc (or alternatives depending on board revision).

Only solution is to grab the schematics and prod around with a 'scope or logic probe. Failing that, send off to a repairer.
