So I was going through my JAMMA stack, and these 3 boards have graphic issues. Is there an easy fix for these? Are there certain chips that are most likely to cause these issues?

1) TumblePop - black vertical lines around the characters/enemies, white vertical lines around text:

2) Magic Sword - text is screwy, and the graphics are blocky:

3) Empire City: 1931 - Tons of crap on the screen.

If you have any suggestions I'm all ears. I haven't tried PCB repair in the past, but these seem like some good candidates to learn on.

I've had some boards with similar problems to the first or second be fixed simply by reseating chips....

That was my first thought with TumblePop, but I don't think any of the chips are socketed (not sure if it's a bootleg board or not).

Didn't think about that with Magic Sword, but should have. I'll give that a try tomorrow.

Empire City used to work fine, but it's developed the issue in the last year or so.

Okay here's an update.

#1 - no socketed chips, but I noticed a cap with a leg broken off, so I'll fix that the next time I'm soldering, and see if it fixed anything.

#2 - reseated all the chips on the Magic Sword board, as well as the connections between the boards. No difference.

#3 - Reseated all the chips, and then noticed that the trace on board at pin #4 was starting to peel up from the board. When I hooked it up this time, I made sure that trace got a good connection and it worked:

I thinking the edge connector was the culprit and not the chips. What's the recommended way to keep that trace down? a drop of glue?

From my experience

I had a board that showed lines on the characters and backgrounds, I inspected the solder side and discovered that two posts were touching, probably caused during shipping. I fixed it and POW it worked!
