For you MVS experts out there, is an MVS cart with graphics issues fixable or it's pretty much trash? I have a Metal Slug that loads fine with sounds and everything.

However, when the intro screen starts and it goes into attract mode, all the graphics are in the form of colored boxes. Like huge pixels. Backgrounds look okay. Sounds great.

I've tested all the slots and they all work fine with my other carts. I've taken apart and cleaned the Metal Slug cart as much as one could and it's still doing it.

Any idea what could be causing this and is it fixable? I'll try to post a pic later.

Anything like this? This was a 4 slotter I fixed recently where the background was rooted.

Basically you have lost an address line to the graphics mask roms in the cart. As other games work with the motherboard its gonna be either a dead mask rom in the cart or track rot in the cart itself that has disconnected one or more address lines.

I fixed a Panic Bomber cart with similar graphics glitch by reflowing all the solder on the mask ROMs. If the cart is junk, where's the hurt in trying?

It's exactly that. So not fixable then. That sucks.

Its fixable, but only by a tech, and probably not for more $$ than the cart is worth.

I fixed the board that was doing the above but a scope is essential.

Yeah, worth a shot. Where are the mask roms? Is there a chart I can follow or are they labeled specifically? Thanks!

Mask roms are the big long rectangular chips in the cart, make sure you note which board goes where and which way up when you take it apart. Your fault would be on the one with the most chips on it, the other one is the sound ROM board.
