Need first pin help. I've read up a lot on these system 80 machines trying to get this to work. Power supply is good. All voltages are spot on. Displays aren't showing 0's and game won't boot up. Backbox and playfield lights work, and random sounds play intermittently. Sounds like, from what I've read, that it's the mpu. I'd like to get this running, but am not sure what I'm looking for when troubleshooting beyond the ps. There is a multigame system 80/80a mpu out there, but if it's not likely the problem, that's a lot of money into a board for nothing. I guess I'd like to know if I should proceed forward, or move on. Thank you in advance.

That was my first pin also. I had sound issues with mine after getting it home from Denver, after reading on the net, those machines have a lot of grounding problems. I took mine to MTTPC (member here) in Mt as it was beyond my skill level. He did the ground mods to mine and some other work, it has been running trouble free since. Contact him and he might be able to help you out. Not sure how much he is on here.
This is his website.

I did have to replace the power supply board before I took him as I had some similar symptoms as what you are describing but I cant remember exactly what it was doing but I couldn't get it to play before replacing the power board.

Find a copy of Clay's pinrepair guide floating around the net. It used to be on pinrepair.com but he got screwed over by a bunch of people and deleted it off his site, there's tons of copies floating around though.

When the game board boots up, it has a 'reset' section, and a 'reset' board too. The 'reset' board can develop problems that make the board reset over and over again, but my guess would be your problem is in the 'reset' section of the mpu itself, which is whta makes the game initially boot (yours isn't booting the first time). Basically when the game is turned on, the reset section waits a few milliseconds for the power to stabalize, and then lets the 'reset' line go active, starting the board.

It's common to have problems in that area, especially if you have any battery damage on the board have you inspected that?

Thanks guys. Sounds like there are common issues that may be causing my issues, and that it is worth proceeding. There is no battery leak damage to this board. I'm wondering if there's somewhere to send this board off to, where someone can swap it into a working machine and repair the damaged sections. Or, if it's just a matter of buying the multi system 80 game mpu and hoping that's all that's wrong, and that there's not more somewhere else. I know this isn't a real high demand or high dollar machine, but it's also not that common, there's not a whole lot of direct replacement parts out there for it, which is why I'm here. Thank you for the help.
