GPROM Checksum E961

Hoping that this is related to a bad coil in the upkicker assembly. That sucker was on hot as hell when I was checking around under the playfield. I reseated the rom, but it didn't make any difference on the boot. Could these two issues be related. I am waiting on parts for the upkicker assembly.. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this particular error.

Any help is appreciated.

GPROM is the eprom on the MPU and likely isn't the issue causing your coil to be locked on.

Gottlieb games prior to System 3's can have issues with grounding which could cause coils to lock on upon bootup but I don't believe I've seen this in System 3's though.

Likely the driver for the coil that is locked on is bad. You can remove one wire to the coil if you want to troubleshoot the game as is, but you will likely end up removing the driver board to replace it in the long run anyway. Also, and assuming someone hasn't done so already, there are usually unused drivers on the system 3 driver boards (I would guess more than normal with Strikes too) which you can rob to replace the failed one.

As for the booting issue, the easiest path forward would be to obtain a "new" eprom first (although not a common failure item). Just a heads up though as Gottlieb/Mondial prevent the open sharing of eproms... although I've had success with using visual Pinball/Pinmame files.
