I recently got a Gottlieb Sing Along. In the process of cleaning it up I ordered a new ball for it, 1 1/16" as is called for. Turns out the ball the game had been using for years was larger and heavier. Not sure why that is, but now with the new ball the 4 in line kick out holes aren't working. I figured out how to adjust the trajectory of the new ball by bending the arm that actually ejects the ball, but the ball gets to the next kick out hole too quickly and hits the raised arm in the next hole before it has a chance to retract. Any idea what could be causing this issue and/or how to fix it? New springs on the mechanism maybe to get it to retract quicker? Also, side question - why would the previous owner put a larger than stock ball in the game?

wtf this sounds crazy, how large in diameter was the "larger" ball previously used?

i would have to take a look at some pictures to see whats going on in a singalong before commenting upon your kick out hole issues

ah yes, i have seen similar in other Gottliebs, i would check out why the triple kicker mech isn't retracting fast enough to get out of the way of the on-coming ball

probably gummed up with old dried grease of some sort - 91% rubbing alcohol is the shit for cleaning this stuff
check the plunger for wear or mushrooming & the coil sleeve too
i don't know what type of return spring is used but it could possibly be worn out too

I would guess he put the larger ball in to resolve this issue, or that's all they had. I have all sorts of different size pinballs I've found in my games over the years.

I think you may have hit it, check the spring. It may be too loose or weak. The arm shouldn't stay up very long. It should kick the ball over, and then go back down almost immediately.
