Gottlieb power fuse issue— MACH3(Us Vs Them)

Todd T just confirmed for me that TNT always modifies the Gottlieb power supply via switcher in their restoration and repairs. He clarified they rebuild the power boards but always use the switcher for +5 voltage on Gottliebs. The rest of the voltages are via the original power supply board.

I'll get a temp reading around the power supply heat sink before and after. Hopefully it will run significantly cooler.
Did you ever do this switcher for 5 volt mod? I'm having the same problem and have replaced everything on the game discussed here. Rectifiers, fuse holders etc. The sound board needs power to reset at start so I don't understand how the switcher mod would work? Considering adding another heat sink to the power supply. If you did the mod and have any pics that would be amazing.

gamefixer did one of those hybrid power supply mods on a Mach 3 I believe. I don't remember if all +5V was offloaded or just the lines for the not-sound board. it's cause the power supply board was burnt to crisp there, I think even the diodes had come loose. it was intense.

I added a switcher to supply 5v at the main pcb board (after the power supply board). The power supply board is still hooked up and producing the voltage for the sound board. I've never had a problem since doing the mod and the cab it runs much cooler. I'm away from the cab for a week but will and pics (or edit here with some pics).

Thanks man. That makes more sense.

Any luck on those pictures?
