I have recently come into possession of a 1931 gottlieb baffle ball machine which I'm very happy about! The machine came with 10 balls but I don't believe they are the original ones. Nine of the balls are smallish white glass marbles and another is a more conventional cat's eye marble.

The white ones seem old but they feel a little small and light for the game. Does anybody know if the original game used glass marbles or actual steel balls? What size were they? They're clearly not standard pinball sized as those would be way too big. I want to see if I can find a more appropriate ball for them.

Any help pointing towards resources on games of this age would be appreciated!

Pretty sure the originals used steel balls, not glass marbles. They're smaller than modern pinballs, about 12–13mm if I remember right. You can sometimes find replacements from vintage parts suppliers or even on eBay listed for early Gottlieb games. Very cool machine to have!
