Hi.

My friend has an Arena Pinball - He says that:

"the driver for the solenoid that pushes a ball up onto the shooting lane keeps the solenoid on. I've kept the machine off because I don't want to burn up the solenoid. I think the problem is with the board that drives the solenoid."

Is there anyone on this board that fixes boards? If not, how do we check to see why the solenoid is firing?

Thanks!

I just fixed a driver on my Stargate, same deal. He needs to get ahold of the manual if he doesn't have one (Pinball Resource sells them.) and track down which transistor drives that solenoid and replace it.

Board work isn't all that scary if you have some experience working with other soldering tasks, know your tool, and take your time. I had to replace my MOSFET on my Stargate twice (my own fault I had to do it a second time..) to get it fixed, and it was my first PCB repair. No big deal.

Sucked out all the excess solder with a solderpult, cut the old mosfet off with flush cutters, heated the legs up and pulled them out with needlenose pliers while it was melted, dropped in the new one and soldered from the back side of the board.

Likely he's probably right that the driver is blown unless it's shorting to ground some other way. Check around the coil to see if anything else is touching it that shouldn't be.
