Hello all,

I was working through the mods on the pinrepair.com pages for the grounding mods to a Gottlieb Sys 80 - Black Hole - and I have a question.

The instructions about the sound board say to attach the new ground line to the 'large' ground line running around the outside of the board. My board has a date of '81 on it and the outer line on the board is pretty narrow.

Is this where I attach the new ground line? If not, can someone tell me where to connect the new ground line for the mods?

Thanks!
Tom

Iirc the documentation is about a sound+speech board.
Some Black Holes (European ones) were shipped with the older sounds board only.
The ground mod isn't valid for these boards.

If you do have another revision of the sound+speech board (I have 2 different board myself, so yes they exist) then you'll have to check the schematics and see where you can take ground from..

you can attach the ground to anywhere on the ground rail/plane

some attach the ground to the negative side of a capacitor
that can have problems if you need to remove the board from the game tho

attach the wire to the backside of one of the PCB mounting screws and you should be fine

use one of these electrical connectors in the photo. strip off the blue plastic and solder the wire to the connector. that, will last almost forever

Interconnect the grounds on all of the boards. If in doubt, confirm with a meter. That's the ground mods in a nutshell.

Also remember that you don't necessarily have to do everything exactly as described on pinrepair.
