Now that I am up to my ass in dead Megatouches, I was finally able to get my original one going again. Its a Maxx 2K. None of the ones from my recent haul had what I needed which was a working Maxx motherboard. Today, I picked up from the same guy what we were looking for in the first place. Its a mostly working Maxx Jade. The monitor needs capped and the touch screen controller is toast. I had hoped to just replace the controller with the one from my 2k but they aren't the same and the 2K is mated to the touch screen. I have no idea how to get the front off to remove the touch screen. Seems like a bad idea anyway. The Jade cabinet is a different style and not everything is exactly compatible. The motherboard is slightly different with no audio jacks and a longer auxillary PCB (its an ISA card). I ended up switching the motherboard from the Maxx to the 2K. It works that way with one stipulation. The coin/DBA wiring is not the same from one cabinet to the other. I was able to get the 2K into freeplay but the calibrate, service and coin switch plug is pinned differently. I really don't want to repin the plug but I may have to jack the wiring from the other cabinet. The Jade cabinet has an optical coin drop instead of a normal switch, probably why the wiring is different. I was happy just to get the damn thing playable again. On my next day off, I am probably going to move the Jade hard drive and key into this cabinet but as for the cabinet itself, its much cleaner and nicer in condition than the Jade one. With all the stuff I got for free and whatever parts are leftover in the Jade cabinet, I should be able to make some cash back but as it stands now, I lost both my ass and my mind in this deal. At least the f*cking thing works again and I can get back to my addiction now. Its been a rough couple of months without that thing.

Rant off.

Glad to hear you got at least one working. I got my Maxx 2K in a mini warehouse deal but was not really interested in it. But when I got it in the Shackade it sure got a lot of play. Right now it is the first thing my 8 yo daughter wants to get on and play. She really likes Monster Madness, Hoop Jones, and the Air Hockey game. Me, I still don't care for it too much.

If you can show me which cabinet it is, I can probably tell you how to get it apart. I have worked on these things since XLs were out.

The Jade is 10x better than the 2k. Depending on which type of cabinet (Classic, Select/slim, etc) it is not too tough working on them even getting the front off. There is a service manual on the Merit site that applies to all cabinets and it has everything on there. Once you get the hang of it you will see that they are easy to work with. I converted a 2K to a Sapphire which was the newest at the time and it was pretty easy. If you're going to mess with the touchscreen theres this special tape you have to get from the distributor IIRC.
