Still have a few more things to do to this fine machine, but after having my monitor rebuilt, LV kit installed, replacing the upper edge connector (thanks to my cute assistant, Nevaeh, it only took an hour), and reseating several chips that had popped a few legs loose, she works. Just thought I'd share. I have the AR rebuild kit, but if the voltages are spot on, do I need to install it yet? Or can I wait til there is an issue? How about the lower edge connector, it's working fine as is, and the split pins look good, do I have to replace it anyway since I replaced the larger one? Thanks.

Just my two cents on the AR rebuild. If the voltages are good and it's running fine, wait to rebuild. No need to fix what's not yet broke.

That's my thought. It seems every time I so much as move this machine or even simply turn it off another issue pops up. Better leave well enuff alone. Thanx Daniel-san.

Post some pics of the Tempest!! One of the Best games on the planet!!! Leave the AR alone if it works fine!!

She's still running strong. I installed 4 new teflon feet on this heavy bitch which makes it so much easier to move. It sounds like such an easy task, but why is it that one or 2 feet are always rusted in? Then the t-nut breaks loose, then the staples bust out, etc. What a pain in the ass. I am trying to put this in the right spot before I snap a pic.

Good to hear of another Tempest living...AGAIN!

Of course, you don't even have to MOVE mine to get another issue to pop up.

Worth it though. Glad you've got her going - does that game give you tunnel vision and "the zone?" You know, where you get so into it your brain doesn't process your peripheral vision at all? And you don't see or hear anything else because it gets so intense? That's why I bought one - it's the only game I have in my collection that does that.

Glad that you are liking her. As well as she's running strong for you. That is the most important part right there.

Here we go:

So whenever a Tempest comes back to life another one dies?

I buy the teflon feet covers at the hardware store, they fit right over the old rusted metal and work just the same. That is until the game gets the full resto job with brand new everything.

Tempest is definitely one of those 'zone' games for me, love it. Phet, nothing personal but it kind of makes me cringe to see those three games so close, especially if you do have the teflon. It seems spirited gameplay would bounce them against each other. I do understand though that it is tough fitting so much awesomeness into one room. :)

it's the only game I have in my collection that does that.

yeah, mine did the same thing. kind of like they say what goes through people in a shootout or holdup type situation - you get tunnel vision, time moves real slow, the adrenaline starts pumping, and your senses are times 1000.

and phet, nice placement on the tempest. it goes real well next to the AD.

Lookin' good, but it seems from the pics it could use a degaussing. Unless it is just the camera but the color variation is way noticable.

LMAO...I always think the same thing..every dam time I try to remove those legs there is at least one that is either rusted in...or the dam thing is stripped...drives me crazy because I can't leave one leg alone if I replace the other three...that would drive me crazy..:D

*Update* I timidly turned it on this morning, and she's still running strong. I may have to move it though, as the screen is still magnetized where it sits.

I know what you mean. I somewhat still cringe when I turn on a vector, but am getting better. Even pulled the Tempest monitor over the weekend and installed a LV6100. All is still good.

I still remember my one visit to Brentradio's JDCade back in '07. Every game worked when I got there. One hour later, Tempest went down and never recovered, much to Brent's dismay.
