Got my first game at a pawn shop of all places today and I think I got a pretty good deal (or at least I hope I did!).

I saw an ad in craigslist for a multicade cocktail machine, one of those 60 in 1 classic game JAMMA machines, so I emailed him and turned out he was representing a pawn shop for this. I had my doubts on what kind of deal I could get because he was asking $1700 for it, but I went to take a look anyway. It looks to be pretty new, no scratches, dings, marks of any kind on it and it has the 19" lcd monitor. Played a couple of games and the menu only had 9 games visible (someone disabled the others) so I brought that up to the guy... He tried to play it off and say he is pretty sure there's more but didn't know how to get to them. Of course I know what it is, I did quite a bit of research before I even looked at it and knew it was a matter of hitting the switches to enable the other games but he didn't know that. So he said "I'm not allowed to go under $1400 on it but if it doesn't have the amount of games we thought it did then I guess make an offer..". I offered him $800, he came back at $950 and we shook.

I've included a couple of pics..

I know these usually go for over $1000 easily, so my question is... Did I get a good deal on it?? This is my first machine but I can see how addicting this is and already want more!

You're going to get answers all over the place. IMHO, you paid too much for it. Everyone pays too much for their first game though, so don't feel bad :D

You over paid!! Please change that horrible kindergarten looking underlay, these are getting cheaper and cheaper to make

Well you could have made one yourself for <$500, I've seen people here sell similar for as low as ~$700, but as recently as 3 or 4 years ago retailers were getting $3000+ so you definitely could have gotten hammered for more. If you weren't looking to have to do any of the work on your own, you didn't do too badly. I have ~$300 into my 48 in 1.

Darn, well I guess I learned my lesson on that one. Oh well. Was happy with it for almost an hour, lol. How do I change the graphic on top? Are there graphics I can buy somewhere and just straight up replace it?

your first game...

Congrats on your first game. Did you overpay? Yes. Did you get totally reamed on it? No.

You paid $2-400 over what someone on here would charge you but as you pointed out nearly $1000 under a retail store.

If it was local & easy to pick up consider that along with the fact that it is clean and working 100%.

Congrats again and welcome to the disease.

:0)

The graphic is really easy to change. Take those black clips off on the top and the glass comes off and the graphic just comes right off as it is not glued or stuck down. Basically its sandwiched between the glass and the wood.

Same thoughts here. EVERYONE overpays with their first game. Live and learn, your next one will be so cheap that you won't be able to stop buying them. Thats the hook ;)

Thanks :) Hey since this is a JAMMA machine does that mean I can put any JAMMA game board in there and it would work? (I'm a complete noob at this

Most of us won't pay that much for any game. It is far cheaper to build a multigame like that, but you have to be know how. The main reason that people who sell those are actually able to sell them is because there are people would rather pay the money than try to build one themselves. Most of us are probably going to tell you that you got taken, but that is becuase we would rather build a multigame than spend the money. However, if you feel you got a deal because you paid much less than he originally wanted, you are perfectly within your rights. Its your money.

correct, tho you'll only be able to play games that have 2 buttons and mostlikely vertical and maybe only 4 way stick games (unless those are 8way joy's). you can prolly have horizontal games in there as well but you might get a sore neck from having to tilt your head to the side.

Congrats on your first purchase, your already learning things :D

Welcome to the hobby! I do not think you over paid. I think you paid about average retail. I am not sure of the market in your area but out my way that game would sell for $1000 very quickly. Cocktail games in general do pretty well. I see people buying decent shape non-working midway cocktail cabinets(which is what that appears to be) anywhere from $150-$200. You have a game with many fun classics and even some not so popular games that you will grow to enjoy. When you have friends and family over and see two people sitting at your game with a beer setting on each side, laughing and saying " I haven't played Dig Dug in years" etc. you will not worry about what you paid at all. You should get rid of that magoo glass underlay though. There are lots of companies on the web that sell these or can custom make one for you. I have always had good luck with arcadeshop.com. Good luck with the hobby and this KLOV site is a great place to get help with repairs/advise, and meet some fellow enthusiasts.

welcome!

Welcome, dont worry about overpaying, you got a great base to build on and the really great thing is you found the best bunch of experts you can find right here with 24/7 expert advice on tap, that's priceless, so in the long run you are gonna do great.
Now for the next step. Upgrade your table with another control panel like this one and you are set for JAMMA

Please do not give him horrible ideas, this looks like crap

He wants to play horizontal games with his vertical cocktail, just showing him an example of what he would have to do to his machine in order to accomplish this, and personally I don't think this machine looks that bad at all, really. I suppose its a matter of taste. No originals had this side panel, so it may appear freakish to some. My personal solution to this problem is building up a empty Japanese Sega Cocktail Cabinet with 19" Wells-Gardner LCD, soon to have a XXXX-in-one.
