Well I ended up getting that Asteroids Deluxe I talked about last week. The guy wanted $150 for it, non-working. I took a look at it, in his small shed. He said it used to work, but when he moved it, it stopped working. It's in pretty good shape considering where it was stored for the past few years. Side art is pretty good. Had some swelling on one side at the bottom. It had the manual & other paperwork in the back which was pretty cool. Missing the front marquee light & its starter, no biggie. So I give the guy the loot & take it home.
Only pic I have for now. More to come. Marquee is off, but in great shape.
Paperwork found inside
Got in my basement (very heavy, as I'm sure most of you know), looked it over, no obvious shorts or frayed wires, pretty clean inside (one dead bee). Plugged it in--dead, nothing. Checked fuses - one blown fuse - replaced fuse - no good. Figured out it was one wire going into the coin door interlock that was burned off the connector. Temporarily spliced that - turns on, awesome. Plays great. Cleaned it up & replaced the back black light tube, the front tube, and both starters. Put it all together, move it to its temp location, turn it on, looks awesome, plays awesome. Very very happy.
So now I have a B-Day party to get ready for @ my house. My Nephew gets there and I go show him the new game. I hade to run back upstairs. He comes up & tells me it aint working. Now I go check it out and its all F'd up. The coin counters keep clicking, the monitor is blank, and the speaker has a hum with a faint cycling sound. I checked the voltages on the AR & I was getting 5.5v. I turned that down to 5v, but no deal. I also checked and cleaned all connectors, disconnected the coin counters, checked the buttons.
Any ideas? Is it the AR? I do have a Centipede that is working. Can I use any parts from that to do some testing? Any tips on cleaning up the wood swelling?
Edit: Forget to mention all my Nephew did was press the player 1 start button and he said a bunch of blue lines went across the screen ten blank.
