Here is one I am very proud of... finally got my "The Adventures Of Robby Roto" fully working. Picked this game up 7 years ago in Detroit. Definitely a rarity. Glad to have this one finally working.

For you that condition looks kinda rough :p Guessing you haven't done the full restore on it? Never head of that game, cool to see another rare one up and running!

Super sweet artwork on that thing, nice job!

Is it any fun?

I remember playing this at Semma liquor on Warren ave in Detroit. It's kind of like dig dug with a preset maze. You have to rescue emoji face miners from spiders. So so game, I always liked the sounds.

I think it came out a year before dig dug. Once that hit it was over for Robby.

Nice cabinet. Not so nice game ...

Still, I would say it's a nice collectible piece.

Nice. :)

From Wikipedia ->

Robby Roto was unsuccessful, selling less than 2,000 units and much less popular than contemporary Dig Dug. Its developer claimed with David Nutting "it was a very complex game and those who played it found themselves on the defensive — most were intimidated. Gamers like to be aggressive."[1]

Wow that looks amazing, great job. I'm actually a fan of the game play and I think both the cabinet design and artwork are awesome.

Some people have issues with the game play, but I have found it to be a fun game (So has my wife). It gets pretty hard pretty quickly. The quirky things about this game are super cool... at one point a demon is dropped off by a bird to hunt you down... ummm ok?? There is a chomping mouth that eventually comes on screen to hunt you down as well... not really sure why there is a mouth or a demon lol. The magic button sort of acts like a pac-man power pill... I dont think I would like that part as much if it wasnt called MAGIC.
The game sounds are awesome. I will have to shoot a video of it.

What's up with "Exit" being mirror imaged??

I've only heard of that game and never saw one until just now.

If Ken has never seen a particular game, it is possible that it may have never really existed.

I have only seen a Robby Roto once and it had been converted to something else. Birdie King or some other turd maybe. The cabinet itself was still in very good shape and it had not been painted over. A couple of guys got it for a project. (more than a decade ago.) I have played Roto in MAME. The coolest thing about it is definitely the cabinet.

You removed the battery from the PCB, right? Those boards are notorious for acid damage, which is one of the reasons you never see this game.

As far as playing the game I've always like it and think it's underrated, there are better games but it's not bad IMHO.

Not to derail the thread, but for those interested there is a good video about one of the primary designers/programmers of Robbby Roto, Jamie Fenton. The video is kind of about the bubble bursting, but it is cool to get some insights into what the designers were trying to do with this game:

Congrats on getting it working, a game you don't see often. There was a really nice one not working on Ebay a couple months ago I was watching. I wonder who got that one?
