Got an affordable Q*bert. Cabinet is shit but it's 100% complete. I have the panel and glass also. It's not very pretty but I am hoping starting a resto topic will motivate me to save it....

Here's a thread where someone saved a really beat up Q*Bert cab as well.

I've definitely struggled with motivation for restoration projects before so I know how you feel. Posting here is one way I've tried to push restorations along.

Woah, way cool. Very motivating...but at the same time very overwhelming. I think I'll start with the control panel and see what happens :) Thanks for the link man!

I did a resto of my Q*Bert cab last year and I know how these MDF cabs can be a pain. Lots of wood hardener will help and it will take some time and patience, but ya got nothing to lose. :)

I think I'm going to try running it through the plainer at work and just shave the swelling down :) Like you said, nothing to lose, hehe. Worst case scenario I can just cut a new one on the CNC router I guess. Is there a CAD file anywhere with cabinet dimensions?

Okay, going to start with the control panel. The CPO is not too bad, I've seen much worse but I think I'm going to really try to go all the way with this so going to strip it down get a new CPO/etc.. Looks like it has some bad bending on the side, that was the only side bolted down when I got it so I am assuming someone tried to pull the CP off and bent the shit out of it, lame, guess I'll pop it on the brakepress :)

Cool - swearing marquee. Is it an original marquee, or a repro?

(Is there an easy way to tell between the two?)

Not sure how to tell, pretty sure this ones original though. Has been sitting for 15 years - lol. The previous owner also mentioned that "only 100 of these were made with that style marquee" not true of course but helps me believe it's original :)

Okay, got working on the control panel. Was very rusty and was just bent to total shit everywhere. Several hours of sanding and hammering away on it seems to have it pretty smooth and flat now. The bent areas were the worst around the outer edges, looked like somebody tried to use a tool of some sort to pry the CP off - lol. Might give it a once over again before I paint it, I'm kind of bored anyways and it's the only part I have here at work to mess with so what the hell right?
