I finally got hold of a cabinet I wanted at a price I could afford. This beauty rolled (with difficulty!) into my house yesterday for the princely sum of £220. Note that the Marquee is a repro so actually has red in it!

It had a fuzzy monitor but otherwise works perfectly. Got it home and made the following observations;

Fair bit of edge damage (see pics below) but nothing unfixable
CP is unbelievably dirty, but seems to be in decent condition otherwise
T Molding is in awful state and faded to some horrible orange brown
Side art is mostly OK - probably not worth trying to replace apart from 1 bit (again see below) (EDIT - just realised the sideart RED is missing - either it has faded to transparent or was never there - how odd - still, unless I find replacement sideart cheaply - it looks fine as it is and can stay)
It was covered in dust and spiderwebs, with a few dead 8 legged friends still in the contents - easily hoovered and cleaned out
The back panel would not come undone, even with the key until I discovered that the lower section was missing and the main panel had been screwed into place through the sides to stop it falling out! :mad: I have started fixing that already
Coin mech had been updated to new coins, but was in several bits - with wiring loose here and there - should be simple to fix
The red joystick tops are worn and discoloured - I intend to replace them sometime soon (the tops that is)

side art damage - I'll have to think how to fix this bit
NB! Colour of art is yellow - my camera just makes it look orange for some reason.

control panel - I have cleaned both pics and the right side so far. Camera doesn't really show how much ingrained dirt is on the left side!

One of the offending screws added to the cabinet to keep assorted bits together. Again, nothing unfixable.

Oh, and I've focused the monitor now that I can get into the back - luckily it is 100% perfect. Yay!

Its a good feeling knowing you got something you wanted, right? Congrats and have fun...

It's a good feeling alright. Of course the wife wants me to turn the sound down a bit, although she is quite happy to have them in the house otherwise :D

On the 'coin mechs have been updated to the new coins"

Can you explain that a bit? In America all of them have/do take quarters. Some of the old pinball games took dimes and nickels, though. Did they switch currency over there a while back and all the coin mechs had to be changed? In America the dollar bills have been the same forever, so the dollar acceptors all work with anything, but the 5's, 10's, and 20's have all been switched several times over the years, so you have to reprogram the chips on the ones that can be updated to take the new stuff.

10p is 1/10th of a pound

Nowadays it tends to cost 50p or £1 to play, older games can be as cheap as 20p

In the 80s it was 10p for most games!

Oh, for clarification, UK currency goes like this;

1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 (all coins), £5, £10, £20, £50 (notes)

So the games then have both 10p and 50p slots in them? Or I guess you can just switch the mechs out to make it either. That's all pretty interesting, I never looked into how they run the coins over there.

YES! Congrats man. I really love this game right now, been playing it a ton. I can't wait to play some of the 1982 version this weekend.

Nice score!

But I really only have one question.

What the hell happened to ShortScot?

LOL! I think he is in my shadow. :D

Lyonsarcade...
Coin mechs here 'detect' the coin size/shape and can discern a 10p, 20p, 50p and £1 all in one mechanism. Spinning them seems to make no difference, so its quite a clever system.

Oh that's cool! Sounds expensive though, lol. I guess that's what's in the snack and drink machines here but it's a bigger unit and electronic.

Congratz man. I have never played the game. There were 2 of them side by side at auction once, but I had no interest as I had never even heard of the game. Must be a good one.

it's kinda similar to robotron except it's done more late 80's fighter style... same twin sticks control though.

Exactly + it's two player cooperative. It really allows for some of the best teamwork in any arcade game. Lots of chances to grab a powered-up weapon, or smart bomb, and save a partner who's about to be overwhelmed.

If you've ever wondered if you could use a machine gun to defend yourself from a never ending mob of people with bats....all while on a gameshow...Smash TV is for you! I love it.
