So I come to my girlfriends house today and shes having a huge tag sale. Theres a custom pc sitting there.. im like wtf?!?!?! It was her brothers cousins or some shit and I now own it.

Whos good with gaming pc's? I built my hp with newer parts but never done something from the ground up like this.

Antec case (nine hundred)
Nvidia 680i LT SLI XFX motherboard
Apevia ATX Switching ps
Intel 2 core quad processor 3.06ghz
2gb crucial ballistix ddr ram
500gb hd/dvd-rw
2x nvidia geforce 7300GS video cards
a bunch of fans with leds. some cool wire loom.

Can anyone help me out with this. What would you expect this to be worth, I will let you know what I paid for it. I have a new video card actually coming to my house monday, Nvidia Gforce 9500gt (cheap cause my 8600gts failed) and I might buy another if there better than these two. I also want more memory.

I actually dont play pc games like I used to. My 2.80ghz hp can play crysis at max without anti-aliasing. so this has to be better, at least so far it is.

so, Is this a good starting point, and what would you pay?

Well, That is a decent machine, for sure.

I don't understand why people spend so much on a processor and then by the cheap graphics cards to put in SLi. Not saying it's the same processor, but a 3.0GHz Core 2 Quad on newegg right now is $330, the case is around $110, and the memory is about $62. Throw in a motherboard (they didn't have the XFX boards right now, but they aren't cheap, probably anywhere from $150-250) and the two graphics cards (they didn't have those, but they aren't the top of the line, your 9500 will probably outperform the two easily)

You could say brand new all the parts would be around $800+ safely, maybe more, if it includes a legit OS.

I paid 150.

I read up on these video cards and im gonna purchase a second 9500gt and be satisfied :)

I have to buy a new OS though, it has vista but its the business version and its asking for a serial number each time I start up, so its not verified. Also I wanna wipe it 100% as well and start over.

I heard I should go xp64?? or what?

Yeah, you got a great deal.

As for the OS. I haven't used XP64 for a while, but when I did, the driver support wasn't there, and a lot of programs wouldn't run on it.

You can get a good ammount of memory for around $150. Windows 7 isn't that bad if you have a powerful system, which you do. But I would run a mininum of 4 gigs of ram.

I worked on a system recently for a guy who had 4 gigs of ram and a 1 gig graphics card. Problem was, he had a 32 bit OS, meaning it could only see 4 gigs total, incuding the video ram.

heres my rig built it myself
Motherboard: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
CPU: E8400 3.0ghz
Memory: Gskill 4 gigabyte 2x2gb sticks
Videocard:Dual ATI Radeon 4850's
Case: Antec 900
Os: Windows 7 64bit

get windows 7 any version doesnt matter, i would also upgrade to 2 more sticks of ram for 4 gigs total if you do that get 64bit windows 7, i built mine about a year or so ago and have never had anything run slow or lag etc

yea im going win 7 64 bit. and I plan on doing at least 4gigs. Also like I said both newer video cards, and then I should be set.

Which ram should I get? DDR2 I think is what this takes. The 2 ballistix will have to come out cause theres only 2 slots and there 1g a piece. I see theres a 4g (2x 2g) ballistix on tiger direct for like 100. Im not sure how to determine which is correct, to many different part numbers. also different memory speeds?

One last question. right now it has a non activated version of windows vista, I can skip the activation and get to the desktop and such but thats about it. Can I buy a windows 7 upgrade, or should I buy the full version (only 50$ more). Keep in mind I wanna wipe this thing completely so idk if I need the full disc or if the upgrade would also let me do it?

Case: Antec 900

Alright cool you have the same case. On the top where there are 2 usb ports, another port, 2 headphone looking jacks. There are 2 more buttons, one on the right, is the power button. What is the little on all the way on the left?

first make sure you get the right type of ram for your motherboard, just find out the model of the board and look in the manual, the little button on the left is the reset button, its like this from left to right

reset button, Headphone jack, microphone jack, firewire port, usb, usb and power button hope that helps, if you have more questions just post :)

EDIT ok i think your board supports these types but im not sure as i had a hard time finding the right manual DDR2-266, DDR2-333, DDR2-400

I have 7 PCs in the house. Don't ask. And one gaming PC, which is nothing special at the moment since I stripped parts off it. But I did get to test a ramsan drive with it, talk about IOPS...

do you have a gaming computer? if so what specs?

i have about that many maybe 1 or 2 less plus a couple of P3 servers

cant get on the internet. I installed windows 7 professional. I literally tried everything I know of for 4 hours. still nothing. Bought a new wireless usb adapter. it sometimes will find the router but wont let me connect, then theres times it wont find the router at all. I literally did EVERYTHING and still nothing. I hate wireless so much. Can not stand it.
