Pretty stoked I picked up a free Monopoly today off CL ad. Guy cleaning out his warehouse. Missing some parts like the DMD but it's lighting up when I turn it on. I'm not sure whats missing he said at least the DMD possible other parts.

Very nice score!

With a lot of guys upgrading their games with Color DMD/LCD setups I see a lot of used original working DMDs at reasonable prices these days.

It would be interesting to hear an update on how easy\hard it was to get it going again...

I could use some help if anyone has one or knows about them. I've never had a newer Stern machine.. I pretty much sold off all my arcade machines and pins when I shut down my business and left CA. I still have my Spy Hunter that's it. I'd love to rebuild a collection but it's hard to find machines in Montana compared to Northern CA.

I picture of the back board with the translite removed would be great for starters. The playfield lights up right now and I see 4 LEDs on a board behind where the DMD is lit up. Can't get it to go into a test mode or anything.

Should I just get a color DMD upgrade or find original? I looked on Ebay for Stern pinball DMD/Monopoly DMD but didn't find anything.

I found a couple fuses and used playfield plastics inside under the playfield. Also found an uncle moneybags promo keychain plastic thingy.

My friends obsessed with this title & plays on location frequently too bad you are on the other side of the country or I'd make you an offer on it as he really wants this title, FREE anything is typically a great thing especially Pinball, could be a rats nest headache regardless certainly worth it to at least attempt to revive regardless of not knowing it's condition... It is a Pat Lawlor table after all.

I opened it and it doesn't look bad. I'm going to try and find the manual and see what's missing besides the DMD. I got two boards in the back board the main PCB I'm assuming (has eproms on it) and a lower board. The top board has batteries in the right corner, no corrosion or anything. The left top corner has a small board looks like a power board or something. The playfield looks good and all the pieces seem to be there.

Honestly if it's just the DMD that's missing I'll be super happy. I'd gladly buy a new DMD or a LED upgraded DMD for it. Free is rare but it's super rare for anything arcade in Montana. In Northern CA. it's like games and pins are a dime a dozen, out here they are hard to find and if you do they want $1000 for a street fighter w/19" screen that needs a cap kit. Pins are almost always antique mechanicals for $2000

I'm not far from you man drop me a pm and I'm sure I can help you get that running by phone or text help.

If you're looking for something cheap to test with - tnt amusements has a couple with issues (line out) on ebay. I would hold off on the color upgrade until you get everything running and decide then that you need it. I also seen a few working displays recently end on ebay around $75-$80 - just need to keep an eye out.

Stern website also has a list of service bulletins pertaining to Monopoly - might be worth your time going over them while getting a manual and display.

Do you know the part number or know what I need to search term for when looking for the correct DMD?

I have a dmd that I pulled from my Simpsons pinball party when I updated to color. Should be a direct drop in. Shoot me a pm if you're interested.

Here's a link to the manual and service bulletins if you still need them- looks like you have the display worked out.

Thanks!

Shouldn't it play blind without the dmd? I don't hear anything going on. I guess I'll read the manual and see if there is something I can look at like a LED troubleshooting off the PCB or something.

Anyone have a link or know where to get a DMD? I looked on a couple pinball sites but can't tell which one (size) I need. Thanks

Also found a plug on the left top of the CPU and plugged it in. Now have sound (droning noise)

Anyone help me out troubleshooting this machine?

if you want to buy a new dmd here is one from pinball life, i doubt you will find a brand new dmd for cheaper. You can usually find them for about $100 used.

Id start with getting the dmd hooked up to see if its telling you to do anything, usually if the batteries are removed, upon boot up its going to want you to open the coin door. So it will say that on the dmd.
